2020.09.17 12:19 Farscape12Monkeys 2013 Borderland Beat article about the War for Tijuana and the feud that the Arellano Felix Brothers had against Chapo, Mayo, and Amado

This is part 1 of a three part series that was published in 2013
http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2013/05/the-war-for-tijuana-20-year-conflict.html
Armando Lopez was a well-known trafficker from Sinaloa, his area of influence was the Sonora desert where he used to land Cessna planes full of cocaine. Lopez was a close friend of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and was sent to Tijuana to speak with Benjamin Arellano on behalf of “El Chapo”.
When “El Rayo” arrived at Tijuana, he went partying with his girlfriend. While both were drunk, they decided to crash the baptism party of one of Benjamin's daughters. Since they didn't carry an invitation, the guards at the door stopped them. This angered Lopez who started fighting with them. Ramon noticed this and without saying anything shot “El Rayo” in the head. After this, he picked up the body and threw it in the back of a Pick-up truck, drove to the outskirts of Tijuana and dumped it. After the death of “El Rayo” a group of hit men travelled to Sinaloa and killed Lopez's brothers and father, this was done in order to prevent possible retribution from Lopez´s family against Ramon.
Rigoberto Campos Salcido, cousin of the famed Manuel Salcido Uzeta aka “El Cochiloco” used to work in the plazas of Tijuana, Tecate, Mexicali and San Luis Rio Colorado without problems, when the Arellano Felix brothers grew in power they felt he was invading “their plaza”.
At first he was told to stop working in Tijuana but he refused to take orders from the young brothers. The Arellano's felt they needed to send a message and dispatched a group to Mexicali where Salcido was kidnapped. His captors took him to a ranch where they ripped his arms with a thresher.
Rigoberto barely saved his own life and ended up with prosthetic arms. However, he continued to visit Tijuana where his fate was sealed. In 1991 the Arellano Felix brothers got word that Salcido was betting on horse races in the outskirts of Tijuana, they knew the route he would use and set an ambush, this was the first major execution in which hundreds of bullets were fired to kill somebody in Mexico.
Manuel Salcido Uzeta aka “El Cochiloco” was the last leader of the Guadalajara cartel, the same legendary cartel formed by Miguel Angel “El Padrino” Felix Gallardo, Ernesto “Don Neto” Fonseca and Rafael “El Principe” Caro Quintero. Salcido used to control Jalisco and Colima, where he received large shipments of Cocaine from Pablo Escobar in Colombia. The Tijuana cartel didn't have any intentions of owning Guadalajara in that time, they didn't consider “El Cochiloco” as an enemy, yet.
Salcido's mistake-like many more after him- was greed; he stole 4 tons of cocaine from a Colombian ship destined to Ensenada, Baja California. The cocaine belonged to the Cali cartel and was sent to the Arellano Felix brothers in Tijuana, only half of the original 8 tons shipment arrived at Ensenada and Ramon Arellano refused to pay the missing 4 tons to the Colombians.
At the end a deal was made, if the Colombians killed Salcido, Ramon would pay the 8 tons to the Rodriguez Orejuela brothers. On October 9th, 1991, Salcido was driving his Ramcharger SUV when a group of hit men from Colombia and Tijuana ambushed him, his body received more than 70 gunshots. From then on, the Guadalajara plaza became property of the Tijuana cartel.
According to “El Cartel” by Jesus Blancornelas, Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was the one who betrayed the brothers. In his book, Blancornelas claims “El Mayo” invited the brothers to celebrate in the Puerto Vallarta nightclub “Christine”. Benjamin, Ramon and Francisco Javier were ready to leave the hotel room when Zambada called Benjamin and said he wouldn't make It because he got a tip someone was trying to cross a shipment without Benjamin's approval.
Benjamin was angry and decided not to go out, however Ramon and Francisco Javier had already had plans for the night and went to the nightclub anyway. Ramon and “El Tigrillo” arrived at “Christine” with several Baja California state agents as bodyguards, Zambada didn't show up, but someone from Sinaloa did. Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman sent group of 50 men wearing military uniforms and bulletproof vests, when the group arrived at the nightclub they identified themselves as Federal Agents, the Tijuana cartel bodyguards identified as Baja California State Agents were shot to dead.
Inside, a hit man from San Diego's Barrio Logan by the name of David Barron noticed something wrong was about to happen and took the brothers to the bathroom. Barron killed some of the hit men from “El Chapo” and took their weapons, covering up for Ramon's escape.
Francisco Javier wasn't so lucky and was taken by Chapo's gunmen. Ramon and Benjamin thought “El Tigrillo” was already dead, but he wasn't, Chapo's men told him the war wasn't against him, nor the family but against Ramon and left him in the outskirts of Vallarta.
If we were to pinpoint one single event that changed the whole course of the Tijuana cartel´s history, it's got to be the shootout at Guadalajara's airport on May 24th, 1993. Seeking revenge for the "Christine" shootout, the Tijuana cartel searched for Joaquin Guzman everywhere, one of their sources told them that “El Chapo” was hiding in Guadalajara and Ramon travelled there along with a group of Barrio Logan hit men.
Their search proved fruitless and they decided to go back to Tijuana, then, someone informed Ramon that “Chapo” was to take a flight and would arrive in a white Mercury Grand Marquis to the airport. Ramon quickly went there with his team and when they saw a white Grand Marquis, they started the shootout, “Chapo” wasn't in that car, he was arriving in a green Cutlass when he heard the gunshots and run away from the scene. The passenger in the white Grand Marquis was none other than Catholic Church Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo.
Now that's the official story. The Catholic Church believes someone set Posadas up and that the Arellano brothers and Chapo had nothing to do with it. That version isn't confirmed yet, but Benjamin Arellano blamed the Mexican Government for Posada’s murder and claimed that both “Chapo” and the Tijuana cartel were framed. Anyway, this marked the beginning of the downfall for the brothers.
The Tijuana cartel, along with Joaquin Guzman Loera and his partner Hector Luis Palma Salazar became Mexico´s number one enemies after the death of Posadas Ocampo.
The Mexican Government needed to arrest ASAP at least one of them, “El Chapo” knew they were after him and decided to leave the country. Before doing so, he ordered his lieutenants to continue with the shipments and to protect his family, then he fled to Central America. He was spotted in El Salvador but the Salvadoran Government said they didn't have the resources to arrest him. Guzman knew of this and travelled to Guatemala where he paid 1 million USD to local authorities to protect him. Instead of doing so, the Guatemalan Army arrested him and expelled him to Mexico.
This somehow took some heat away from the Tijuana cartel leaders who at the moment were hiding in places like Russia, Spain and even in the USA.
In December 1993, the Tijuana cartel sent their “elite” group of killers, then known as “narcojuniors” to Mexico City, their mission was to gun down Amado Carrillo Fuentes aka “El Señor de los Cielos”.
Carrillo was the leader of the Juarez cartel and boss of both Ismael Zambada and Joaquin Guzman. With “El Chapo” in jail, the brothers saw this as an opportunity to kill the man they saw as their biggest threat.
Fabian Martinez aka “El Tiburon” or “9-9”, Federico Sanchez Valdez aka “G-1”, Merardo Leon Hinojosa aka “El Abulon” or “3-3” among others arrived at the Bali-Hai restaurant. They gunned down Carrillo's bodyguards at the door and tried to kill him but were repelled by Alcides Ramon Magaña aka “El Metro” and his team of hit men. Carrillo and his family were saved but Carrillo’s wife was wounded in the shootout. At the time, the cartels didn't mess with each other families, this escalated the war against the Tijuana cartel.
In June 1994, Ismael Zambada was to attend a birthday party in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the party was organized by known drug dealer Luis Enrique “El Kiki” Fernandez Uriarte, who was celebrating his daughter's 15 years of life. “El Mayo” was one of the many top drug lords invited to the party and the Tijuana cartel knew that. They thought the best way to kill him would be with C4 explosives, when the men in charge of the explosives were putting them in place, one of their cell phones rang and triggered the detonator, killing them instantly and hurting members of “Los Coyonqui” and “Los Huracanes del Norte” outside the Camino Real Hotel.
The official military report on the subject mentions that several Federal and State police commanders along with prominent politicians attended the party. Benjamin Arellano is considered the mastermind behind this attack.
Hector Palma Salazar aka “El Guero” was a violent man, he started his criminal career as a sicario, then became bodyguard of the famous Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo. Soon he was in charge of the cocaine route from Sinaloa to San Luis Rio Colorado, but he fell from Felix Gallardo's grace and his wife and children were killed.
Guadalupe Laija (Palma's wife) was decapitated by a Venezuelan drug lord who also took Palma's children and threw them alive from a bridge. All this just made the already violent Palma even worse, he became allied with “El Chapo” and ”El Mayo”, together they launched a campaign to conquer Sinaloa.
Palma Salazar's actions were considered at the time so brutal, that even the Arellano Felix family paid for several, full center-page adds in the Excelsior newspaper complaining that both “El Chapo” and “El Guero” were the ones responsible for the violent acts in Sinaloa and accusing them of not respecting women and children in their attacks.
“El Guero” was a powerful foe for the Arellano Felix brothers, but luck was on their side in 1995, June 22nd to be exact. One day Palma left Ciudad Obregon on his way to the Toluca airport, at mid-air he was told that the army was waiting for him so he ordered his pilot to land in Zacatecas, the army also raided the Zacatecas airport so Palma thought about landing in Guadalajara.
On his way he was again told that the army already arrived at the Guadalajara airport so he finally decided for Tepic's airport but as luck would have, his Learjet ran out of fuel and crashed near the Nayarit border.
Palma Salazar survived the accident but was badly hurt, then Federal Police commander Apolinar Pintor Aguilera saved him and took him to Zapopan were he was finally arrested after the army raided his house.
With both “El Chapo” and “El Guero” in jail, and “Mayo Zambada” on the run, the Arellano Felix brothers felt they had won the war in 1995.
On March 1st, 1996, an operation code named “Alacran” (Scorpion) was conducted in Tijuana by the Federal Police and Mexican Military, 22 homes were raided in search of Tijuana Cartel members. Many of the homes were destroyed and a minimal quantity of marijuana was seized, but no important members were arrested.
What made this operation relevant was the fact that then Federal Police commander Ernesto Ibarra Santes, was the one in charge of the operation. Ibarra Santes was in fact working for “El Mayo” Zambada and Amado Carrillo Fuentes.
Ernesto Ibarra Santes had just been named Federal Deputy Attorney General for the state of Baja California in August, 1996, he promised to capture the Arellano Felix brothers, and in fact, he really planned on doing so.
At the moment Ibarra Santes was seen as a good agent, but behind his “good work” in Tijuana, there was a dark story. Ibarra Santes was a friend and ally of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, according to witness testimony Ibarra Santes sold intelligence information about the Arellano Felix brothers to Amado Carrillo. He was so good at selling info on them that Amado soon made a close friendship with him.
It was in a reunion in Agua Prieta, Sonora, where Ibarra Santes gave Amado a yellow envelope with some wiretapped phone calls from Ramon Arellano. Witness accounts claim Amado offered Ibarra all the Brazilian girls in the party but Ibarra said he didn't have any time. Ibarra left and Amado continued talking with Mexican General Mario Arturo Acosta Chaparro, who advised Carrillo to not mess with the Arellano Felix brothers. That was the last time Carrillo and Ibarra Santes met.
One week after the reunion, Ibarra Santes traveled to Mexico City, the Arellano brothers knew of this trip and sent their best hit men to kill him. Alfredo Hodoyan Palacios aka “El Lobo”, Emilio Valdes Mainero and Fabian Martines Gonzalez aka “El Tiburon” followed Ibarra after he left Mexico City's airport.
Ibarra took two bodyguards with him and took a taxi towards his hotel. The Tijuana “Narcojuniors” caught up with him and stopped their white Cutlass in front of the taxi, Ibarra's bodyguards did not react in time and they were all killed along with the taxi driver. Ibarra was the only one who survived the initial attack but died on his way to the hospital.
The same witness recalls that Amado Carrillo knew of this when he was watching the news along “El Mayo” Zambada, and some Colombian drug lords in Mexico City. Amado supposedly cried his friend's death the whole night.
The late journalist Jesus Blancornelas narrated a series of reunions between Amado Carrillo and representatives of the Tijuana cartel, said reunions took place early in 1997.
The reunions were made following a recommendation by Mexican General Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo, the idea behind was to end all confrontations between both cartels. Amado was interested in doing so, but he had only one condition, to be handed those who shot at his wife in the Bali-Hai shootout.
The first reunion took place in Sonora, the Arellano Felix brothers sent Manuel Aguirre Galindo aka “El Caballo” to speak with Carrillo Fuentes. At first, negotiations initially had a good course, but then Amado told Manuel his sole condition, Manuel quickly called Ramon who simply said “NO”, he wasn't going to hand over three of his best hit men and more importantly to him, three of his friends.
Ramon then asked to speak with Amado over the cell phone but Carrillo refused. Negotiations continued anyway. Carrillo told Manuel Aguirre that he had to take a flight to Chile and he would be out of the country some time, Carrillo said he'll call “El Caballo” when he came back, after that, “El Caballo” left on his way to Tijuana.
The call never came, but the Arellano's knew Carrillo was back in Mexico. They knew he was to be admitted into a plastic surgery clinic to change his face and have a small liposuction.
Here's where things get murky, the following is the official account of that surgery.
On July 5th, Amado Carrillo arrived at Mexico City where he was admitted in a plastic surgery clinic, the surgery lasted more than 8 hrs, everything seemed to be OK, but on the early hours of the next day he woke up with major pain, a sedative was injected to him which caused a massive heart attack.
Just like with almost all deaths of high ranking criminals, Amado's death is full of conspiracy theories, some claim he really died in an accident, other's claim he was killed either by Colombian's or by the Tijuana cartel, some others claim Amado retired and fooled the DEA. Either way, Amado was gone and the Tijuana cartel had lost another enemy, maybe the most powerful enemy they ever faced.

2020.09.12 07:52 CrystalPlayStation TTYD in Spanish

Since I recently played through the game in Spanish, I thought I'd record some of the differences/similarities between the Spanish and English translations. I'm pretty certain that both versions were translated from the original Japanese, so the Spanish isn't just a later copy of the English version; they're just adapted differently from the source. No matter how I played it, I enjoyed going through this game twice. If I missed something you want to know, specific or otherwise, I can answer it.

2020.09.05 23:34 Emerld33 My pitch on $VLRS, best value investment I’ve ever found, once in a cycle opportunity - coming from a former airlines analyst at a top 5 hedge fund

Thesis: VLRS is an underfollowed and catalyst-rich potential 10-bagger IF you can swallow the fact that its a levered Mexican airline. A best-in-class operator pre-crisis, VLRS is an immediate and long-term COVID beneficiary that has already doubled market share and almost recovered 2019 traffic levels as primary competitors collapse, creating a sustainable dominant position.
Description: VLRS is an ultra-low-cost Mexican airline serving domestic (~70%) and international, mostly US transborder destinations (~30%) with a focus VFR (visiting family and relatives) traffic (45%) and price sensitive leisure travelers (30%). Volaris is a best-in-class ULCC, the largest airline in Mexico and the largest ULCC in Latin America, with the 2nd lowest unit costs in the world.
Valuation: Our 2026 price target is MXN204/sh (USD$95/ADR), roughly 10x upside - based on a typical high-quality ULCC forward P/E multiple of 14x on FY27 EPS of MXN14. From 2019 through 2027 we expect an ASM CAGR of 10.6%, RASM CAGR of 1% (reflecting depressed pre-COVID environment and ancillary execution), CASM @ -1.5% (reflecting fleet transition and pre-COVID fuel prices).
Market Dislocation: 1.) Hairy, foreign listed small-cap airline and trades only 3m USD / day - high discoverability 2.) Poor sell-side coverage - despite significant interim newsflow, including the almost-complete recovery of volumes to pre-COVID levels, US sell-side coverage has not updated models since July. For example, current consensus capacity for 3Q reflects roughly 4,122k ASMs vs. 4,800 based on actuals through Aug and mgmts stated planes for Sep 3.) Sellside and buyside always fails to model the impact of upgauging and fuel efficiency during significant fleet transitions - many sellside models either don't model the fleet or actually apply the wrong number of seats entirely, underestimating growth implied and incremental costs associated 4.) Market anchors to minimum contractual fleet without consideration of significant ability to extend leases or pull forward deliveries if the recovery remains strong, especially if additional capital is raised 5.) IFRS 15 and 16 changes make spot check comparisons messy and the capital structure look worse than reality 6.) Persistent overcapacity in recent years is not reflective of earnings power in a more consolidated market. In 2019, Interjet was discounting aggressively to generate cash in an effort to maintain solvency which depressed fares below rational levels
Key Investment Factors:
1.) Accelerating secular growth of Mexican aviation demand – From 2007 to 2018 air trips per capita in Mexico has grown from 0.25 to 0.36 compared to 0.72 for Chile and 0.45 for Brazil. Since VLRS’s founding in 2006, the domestic market has grown at a CAGR of 7.6%, international market at 4.9% (US transborder >20%) and total Mexican market 6.2%. Mexico’s demographics are supportive, with a young population and an emerging middle class expected to comprise 50% of the population by 2032
2.) Bus switching presents a long runway for sustained growth – Mexico’s inter-city bus market is 70x the size of the air market (>3bn bus pax vs. 54m air pax in 2019). 41% of VLRS’s routes pre-COVID had only bus competition and VLRS sees buses as the primarily competitor and source of growth. Amazingly, VLRS flights are actually cheaper in many cases than the competing bus trips and VLRS runs ticket giveaways at bus stations to convert first time flyers. First time flyers comprised 6% of 2019 passengers and 82% of passengers surveyed would not travel by bus again. COVID has pulled forward bus switching given the difference in trip duration.
3.) Market share gains from 30%+ reduction of domestic capacity and collapse of primary competitors – a. VLRS has captured ~50% of the growth in the domestic market since its founding and has grown from a 4% in 2006 share to 31.1% in 2019. In July, VLRS held 45% share of the domestic market which is sustainable and could grow further. b. Aeromexico’s domestic market share has shrunk from 40% in 2011 to 24% in 2019 as the legacy carrier has basically ceded the domestic market to ULCCs and runs it primarily to feed international travel. Aeromexico is currently in chapter 11 and is expected to reduce its fleet by at least 30%. c. Interjet (19.7% 2019 domestic share) is the 3rd largest ULCC, but is the most important competitor to VLRS since they share Toluca as their main hubs and since Interjet has been aggressively discounting since 2018 in order to manage solvency issues. 60 of Interjet’s 66 planes have been repossessed leaving them with a ragtag fleet of six barely operable Russian Sukhoi Superjets. d. Viva Aerobus is another ULCC with 20.2% of the market in 2019, through Viva tends to stay in its lane geographically and focus in different airports than Volaris. Viva will definitely be looking to take their slice of Interjet’s and Aeromexico’s forfeited routes and slots, though its unlikely they’d be overaggressive with VLRS in an environment of massive undersupply
4.) Expanding and sustainable cost advantage embedded in underappreciated fleet transition – VLRS has the second lowest unit cost in the world and has a RASM lower than Aeromexico’s CASM. Airbus NEO (new engine option) are roughly 10% cheaper on a unit cost basis, driven by fuel efficiency (-14% to -16% fuel burn per seat) and increased gauge (operating leverage on per-departure and per aircraft costs like pilot wages, landing fees, etc.). NEO aircraft currently make up 30% of seats in the fleet and the latest fleetplan has that growing to ~60% by 2023 (and >90% by 2026 depending on lease extensions and deferrals), Overall this translates to a ~1% embedded annual reduction in CASM through 2026 assuming no other other cost improvements off of 2019. Said differently, we expect VLRS’s average seats per aircraft to grow from 185 today to 198 by 2026.
5.) Upside from price and/or fleet flexibility – VLRS has pushed out 24 neo deliveries from 2020-2022 to 2027-2028 in order to save USD$200m of predelivery payments – if demand recovers more quickly VRLS could reaccelerate those orders and grow the fleet 20%+ in the next three years. VLRS has historically also extended leases beyond the contractual redelivery date, though the published fleet plan only reflects contractual deliveries and redeliveries. VLRS remains nimble and able to accelerate growth and take share if demand is strong or to recover pricing and build cash
6.) Ancillary revenue upside – since 2011 non-ticket revenue per passenger has grown at a ~19% CAGR, and remains below comparable global ULCC peers in absolute value and % of revenue. We’d expect this to grow per management’s comments and historical execution, as well as supportive baggage attach rate data through July
7.) Additional growth opportunities from newly-freed slots in previously capacity-constrained Mexico City and expansion into Central America – Historically capacity constrained Mexico City airport has use-it-or-lose-it rules and given the fleet outlook, the incumbents (Aeromexico and Interjet) look as if they will finally lose it, opening the door for VLRS to land-grab valuable slots. VLRS is in the early stages of ramping up subsidiaries in Costa Rica and El Salvador, both of which are high-priced markets with limited ULCCs penetration and significant growth opportunities (watch out CPA)
Risks/Mitigants: 1.) Travel recovery - globally, passenger travel has been slow to recover, with some suggesting a structurally lower level of travel as the "new normal". VLRS carries primarily VFR and leisure traffic which is more resilient and quicker to recover than corporate travel, but of course the future is unknown and a second shutdown could increase the risk of a dilutive issuance.
2.) Liquidity - while VLRS is net-positive cash ex-leases and has executed a substantial and impressive liquidity preservation plan (see 2Q20 call and latest investor pres), a second shutdown VLRS would potentially require a further deferral of deliveries, limiting VLRS’s ability to fully capitalize on the opportunity market share opportunity. The company said on the 2Q20 call they expect 40-45m USD of monthly cash burn in 3Q20 and that all incremental capacity decisions would be made on the basis of incremental cash contributions - given the capacity recovery since the call we expect the 3Q20 exit rate to be much lower. VLRS is a critical customer to airbus, airports and other suppliers and we would expect further deferrals or negotiations to be successful if travel deteriorates from here
3.) Potential equity or convert issuance - The board has convened an Extraordinary Assembly for 9/18/20 at which they're expected to propose an issuance of debt, converts or shares. The uncertainty creates an overhang, but we believe it is more likely driven by a desire to re-establish a more aggressive fleet plan that was tempered in the depth of the crisis. We would expect that senior debt markets remain open to VLRS.
4.) Uncertain overhang from extended booking period - VLRS extended their booking period out to Oct 2021 and offered 125% flight credits for customers willing to re-book which could be an overhang on unit revenue through 2021, though the does maximize volumes on which to earn ancillary revenue and maximized aircraft utilization. This was a wise move by mgmt to minimize cash outflows from refunds, but with air traffic liability greater than 1/2 of available cash, a second shutdown could reintroduce liquidity risk or extend fare weakness a few quarters into the recover (though we’d expect this to be made up with close in pricing if travel surprises to the upside)
5.) General FX and macro related to Mexico
Catalysts: 1.) Consistently improving monthly traffic reports and 3Q earnings to drive positive earnings revisions even if general air traffic recovery is weak 2.) Earnings power in the post-COVID competitive environment to become clear 3.) Removal of overhang form potential capital raise following 9/18 board meeting 4.) Further clarification of Viva and Aeromexico's post-COVID fleet outlooks 5.) Re-launch of Central American expansion and reintroduction of use-it-or-lose provisions in Mexico City, forcing the expected official forfeit by peers of slots temporarily granted to VLRS
Management/Holders highlights: 1.) Indigo Partners/Bill Franke: Volaris is backed (15% current stake) by budget-airline guru Bill Franke's firm Indigo Partners, which also has stakes in Eastern-European carrier Wizz (another write-up to follow), Chile's Jetsmart and Frontier (with which Volaris has recently introduced a codeshare agreement with). Collectively, Indigo has an orderbook of 636 Airbus A320-family neo and XLR aircraft. Bill Franke is the former CEO of America West, Chairman of Wizz and Frontier. Indigo also launched and has since exited Spirit Airlines and Singapore's Tiger Air. Doug Parker (AAL CEO) and Scott Kirby (UAL CEO) are among the airline industry leaders originally hired by Bill Franke to America West. Other notable founding Volaris investors include Harry Krensky’s Discovery Americas (current stake 2.41%), as well as Latin American business giants Carlos Slim, Emilio Azcárraga (Televisa) and Roberto Kriete (TACA) (current stake 7.6%).
2.) CEO Enrique Beltranena (0.9% holder) has been an aviation fanatic since 8 years old and joined the industry with his home country of Guatemala’s Aviateca during privatization in 1988. He became general manager of the Aviateca and was responsible for its merger with, Sahsa, Nica, Lacsa and TACA Peru, forming a Grupo TACA and later serving as COO for the group. In 2003 the TACA boarded asked Beltrarena to develop plans for interconnecting airlines in Latin America – one of the six resulting plans was Volaris. In 2005, Beltranena left the 6,800-employee Grupo TACA founded with Volaris
3.) Enrique is supported by EVP Holger Blankenstein since VLRS’s founding, former Bain consultant who heads VLRS’s data-intensive approach to everything from network, fares, marketing and labor
Catalyst
Catalysts: 1.) Consistently improving monthly traffic reports and 3Q earnings to drive positive earnings revisions even if general air traffic recovery is weak 2.) Earnings power in the post-COVID competitive environment to become clear 3.) Removal of overhang form potential capital raise following 9/18 board meeting 4.) Further clarification of Viva and Aeromexico's post-COVID fleet outlooks 5.) Re-launch of Central American expansion and reintroduction of use-it-or-lose provisions in Mexico City, forcing the expected official forfeit by peers of slots temporarily granted to

2020.09.01 20:22 planet_oregon Western Union, internal scam (employee leaking info to scammers posing as Homeland Security)

Wanted to send out an alert that I recently encountered scammers using info pulled from my Western Union account - obviously leaked from call center employees.
I use Western Union a lot for my business, sending money overseas to partners in West Africa. A lot of these countries are "at risk" for fraud, so my transactions often get flagged and cancelled. This is standard practice at Western Union, or most money transfer services.
Recently I had two transfers cancelled by said department. The next day, I get a call from Western Union (probably spoofed). The person on the phone says he's calling from the customer compliance department, and that my two transactions have been flagged and have been reported to the Department of Homeland Security, and I should expect a call from them shortly. Note that this person knew about the cancelled transfers, the amounts, and the names. I had not shared this information with anyone.
Twenty minutes later I get a call from [name redacted] from "Homeland Security" via a DC number. Here the scam gets interesting. He asks me questions about the transactions - again, he knows the amounts and names on them, typical questions, what are they for, how do I know the people, etc. Then he quickly gets off the phone, telling me he'll look into this, and call me back. This process of calling and disconnecting is repeated, probably to disorient me.
While off the line with him, I call the number back. He answers "Homeland Central." But it's just him, no routing, no recording, just a direct line. Again, while off the line I call the real Department of Homeland Security whose agents are completely affectless and professional, much different from this guy's informal nature. They advise it's probably a scam. But I haven't heard the bait yet.
When he calls back the last time, I get him to cut to the chase. The end game of the scam is to try to get me to transfer the amounts of these cancelled transactions via a money order. I call him out as a scammer, and he simply says "Well, if you don't want our help..." And I feel like an idiot for wasting hours of my day.
Maybe *most* people on reddit won't encounter this scam, because they don't use money transfer services. In fact, the only reason I was susceptible is because of my work in "hot" zones, I've had quite a lot of dealings/investigations by the Department of Homeland Security, so I'm more or less aware that I'm always being monitored. But most Western Union transfers are immigrants sending money back to their families, a demographic that probably is most vulnerable and potentially fearful of DHS.
The most alarming part of the scam is that it's the first time I've encountered someone inside a company leaking info the scammers. Western Union has call centers in the Philippines and El Salvador, and I'm sure they have thousands of employees. But this was the key, the possession of this "private" info that added legitimacy to the scam.
A few red flags: 1) the scammer has an accent that doesn't quite match his name, 2) he refers at one time to the "US Embassy in Central America", 3) he mentions the incorrect country I'm sending to. I also found a linkedin profile for the name the scammer gave that looks fake, and reported to linkedin.
I reported the scam to Western Union, the FTC, DHS, and a few security folks.

Welcome back to the forty-eighth edition of /neoliberal elects the American presidents!
This will be a fairly consistent weekly thing - every week, a new election, until we run out.
I highly encourage you - at least in terms of the vote you cast - to try to think from the perspective of the year the election was held, without knowing the future or how the next administration would go. I'm not going to be trying to enforce that, but feel free to remind fellow commenters of this distinction.
If you're really feeling hardcore, feel free to even speak in the present tense as if the election is truly upcoming!
Whether third and fourth candidates are considered "major" enough to include in the strawpoll will be largely at my discretion and depend on things like whether they were actually intending to run for President, and whether they wound up actually pulling in a meaningful amount of the popular vote and even electoral votes. I may also invoke special rules in how the results will be interpreted in certain elections to better approximate historical reality.
While I will always give some brief background info to spur the discussion, please don't hesitate to bring your own research and knowledge into the mix! There's no way I'll cover everything!
Ronald Reagan v Walter Mondale, 1984
Profiles
  • Ronald Reagan is the 73-year-old Republican candidate and the current President. His running mate is current Vice President George Bush.
  • Walter Mondale is the 56-year-old Democratic candidate and the previous Vice President. His running mate is US Representative from New York Geraldine Ferraro.
Issues and Background
  • Within a year of taking office, President Reagan signed comprehensive tax reform legislation that exemplified his economic philosophy. The top marginal income rate was cut from 70% to 50%, and the rate on the lowest taxable bracket was reduced from 14% to 11%. The capital gains tax was reduced from 28% of 20%. Legislation in 1982, prompted by increases in the deficit, prevented the full tax cut aspirations of the 1981 legislation from going into effect. Reagan and his supporters credit his economic policies with the strong economic recovery since the beginning of 1983.
  • The last couple years have seen very large federal budget deficits, with the 1983 peak at a level unseen since immediately following World War II, even relative to GDP. Mondale has chosen to make this arguably his biggest domestic campaign issue. Mondale has argued that the "question of the deficit and getting interest rates down is the most important domestic problem of our time - nothing else compares with it." He has spoken in stark terms about the alleged stakes, saying:
The President's point that growth will cure the deficit is obviously not the case. The deficit will get worse even with growth. Thus it is a very severe problem that threatens our future, saddles our kids with a with a trillion dollars worth of debt, is making us into a debtor nation, is destroying our position in international commerce, driving up interest rates, and is making the budget increasingly unmanageable.
Further, Mondale has gone further in his gambit on making the deficit an election issue by pledging to raise taxes. In his nomination acceptance speech, Mondale said:
Whoever is inaugurated in January, the American people will have to pay Mr. Reagan's bills. The budget will be squeezed. Taxes will go up. And anyone who says they won't is not telling the truth to the American people.
I mean business. By the end of my first term, I will reduce the Reagan budget deficit by two-thirds.
Let's tell the truth. That must be done - it must be done. Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won't tell you. I just did.
    • Specifically, the Mondale deficit reduction plan calls for $85 billion in new tax revenues and $105 billion in cuts in projected spending. The entirety of the new tax revenue is to be earmarked for a special fund to reduce the deficit. Any further new spending will be "pay as you go," requiring new revenue to cover the spending. The planned spending cuts are mostly decreases in the planned growth of spending, including for the military and Medicare, rather than outright cuts.
    • According to Mondale campaign advisers, a typical family of four with a gross annual income of $25,000 (OOC: ~$62,000 in 2020 dollars, same format for further parentheticals) will not see their taxes go up. However, by 1989, families making $25,000 to $35,000 (~$62,000 to $86,000) will see a tax increase of about $95 (~$200) families making up to $45,000 (~$111,000) will pay roughly $200 (~$500) more and families making $100,000 (~$250,000) will pay about $2,600 (~$6,400) more.
    • Republicans have of course criticized the Mondale plan sharply. Vice President Bush called it a "program for failure" that would stall the recovery. Reagan insists that deficit reduction must come through economic growth and reductions in wasteful government spending. Reagan describes a tax increase as a "last resort."
  • Religion and issues of morality have come up several times during this campaign. President Reagan favors a Constitutional amendment that would permit organized prayers in public schools that students can opt-out of. Mondale opposes the amendment. President Reagan also supports a Constitutional amendment banning abortions except when the life of the mother is at risk. Mondale is personally opposed to abortion but believes it should be a woman's individual choice. Mondale's running mate Geraldine Ferraro has received pushback for her statement that, "the President goes around calling himself a good Christian; I don't for a minute believe it," criticizing Reagan's policies as "unfair" and "discriminatory."
  • In fall 1983, following an internal power struggle in the country and pleas from other Caribbean nations, the United States invaded Grenada alongside several Caribbean nations. The invasion was successful, resulting in the establishment of a new interim government. Elections are intended to take place in the coming months. The Reagan Administration justified the intervention on the basis of protecting US medical students on the island. The UN General Assembly voted 108 to 9 to call the intervention a "flagrant violation of international law." Mondale raised questions about the invasion early on, but in the past couple months has spoken favorably of it.
  • The United States along with three European nations introduced a peacekeeping force into Lebanon in 1982, in the broader context of the Lebanese Civil War. US diplomatic and military forces have been the victim of a number of suicide bombings, in particular the 1983 bombings of Beirut barracks, killing 241 US military personnel. Mondale has been sharply critical of Reagan with respect to these bombings, arguing that there was plenty of warning to prevent them. Mondale has further argued that overall US policy in Lebanon has been marked by "unbelievable disorganization." In January, Mondale called for the withdrawal of US marines from Lebanon. Reagan argues that the US presence in Lebanon helped facilitate the withdrawal of Palestinian guerrilla fighters.
  • At no point in his first term thus far has President Reagan met with his Soviet counterpart, Konstantin Chernenko. Mondale has frequently criticized Reagan for this, and has promised he would hold annual summit meetings with Soviet leaders. Reagan has said that he would like a summit, but needs to feel sure it will produce results before it happens. More broadly, Reagan has described the necessary policy towards the Soviet Union as one of "credible deterrence and peaceful competition," though he has also not held back in his criticism of the Soviet Union, calling it just last year an "evil empire."
  • In 1979, the Sandinista National Liberation Front in Nicaragua overthrew the Somoza dictatorship and established a new government. Since then, counterrevolutionary forces including former pro-Somoza forces as well as disillusioned former Sandinistas, have engaged in armed conflict against the Sandinista government. Reagan cancelled economic aid to Nicaragua upon taking office, but has since said that there have been attempts to get along with the new government. However, Reagan has been sharply critical of Nicaragua's accused military buildup and "meddling" in El Salvador.
    • Mondale has criticized Reagan's "failed policies" in Central America and has promised that if elected, he would end all US military exercises in Central America, withdraw combat forces from Honduras, and "end the covert activities directed toward Nicaragua."
    • A CIA booklet became public this October which has raised questions about the nature of US covert activities in Nicaragua. As reported by the New York Times:
A Central Intelligence Agency document that became public this week tells Nicaraguan rebels how to win popular support and gives advice on political assassination, blackmail and mob violence.
The 44-page booklet, titled ''Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare,'' is a primer on insurgency. Most activity of this sort in Nicaragua has been paid for by the United States through the C.I.A.
The primer explains how to kidnap and kill officials, blow up public buildings and blackmail ordinary citizens.
  • Ferraro and her husband have come under intense media scrutiny over their financial history, with accusations ranging from tax avoidance to connections to organized crime, pornography, and gambling. In response, the couple has relented in releasing several years of tax returns, and Ferraro has allowed the media hours of her time to ask questions related to her and her husband's finances. Most accusations against them have proven to be exaggerated, though there are still lingering questions regarding certain accounting errors that were made. For more technical details, see coverage by the New York Times or Washington Post.
  • Particularly following what some considered to be a sub-par first debate performance, some Democrats are openly raising the question of whether Reagan, 73, is too old to continue serving as President. Asked at a White House event whether age should be considered a legitimate issue, Reagan said jokingly of Mondale, "I'll challenge him to an arm-wrestle any time." Reagan's more vigorous second debate performance has led to a diminishing of the age discussion.
  • In June 1981, the Associated Press and Los Angeles Times reported on a rare lung infection in 5 young previously healthy gay men in Los Angeles. Since then, over 6,000 cases of "acquired immune deficiency syndrome" (AIDS) have been reported to public health officials. In April of this year, the cause of the disease was discovered, a retrovirus known as HTLV-III. According to the CDC, "most cases have been reported among homosexual men with multiple sexual partners, abusers of intravenous drugs, and Haitians, especially those who have entered the country within the past few years." The case fatality rate is extremely high. Scientists say the virus is mainly spread through sexual contact. There were two major developments just recently in October. First, the New York Times reported that saliva may be a possible source of transmission, though it remains unlikely that it is a "key mode of spread." Second, under pressure from Mayor Dianne Feinstein, San Francisco public health officials ordered a number of bathhouses and sex clubs geared towards homosexual men closed. Officials at the Department of Health and Human Services argue that this disease has become a top research priority for them, and that they expect to spend many millions of dollars on research grants and other efforts. However, some groups like the National Gay Task Force have criticized the government sharply and say that not nearly enough is being done. Many criticisms of the government and other institutions and groups of people are covered in the essay from last year famous in the gay community, "1,112 and Counting" by Larry Kramer, published in the New York Native. Neither Reagan nor Mondale have spoken of this disease on the campaign trail.
OOC Note: There is no indication that AIDS was an issue in the presidential election. Even gay newspapers from this time did not relate the crisis much if at all to the presidential election. To the extent that government policy was discussed, it was often local policy. Why mention it then? Well, it's a similar situation to Japanese internment and the 1944 election. I know some of you will bring this up no matter what, understandably, and so I'd like to at the very least calibrate the discussion to the year of the election with proper context and background.
Platforms (Important note if this is influencing your vote: These are just excerpts, not everything is included and inclusion of a point in one set of excerpts does NOT mean the other party took the opposing stance or didn't mention it; also, especially in the modern era, a Presidential candidate may disagree with the party platform)
Read the full 1984 Republican platform here. 10 Excerpts:
  1. "We reaffirm our conviction that State and local governments closest to the people are the best and most efficient"
  2. "The Republican Party pledges to continue our efforts to lower tax rates, change and modernize the tax system, and eliminate the incentive-destroying effects of graduated tax rates ... We therefore support tax reform that will lead to a fair and simple tax system and believe a modified flat tax—with specific exemptions for such items as mortgage interest—is a most promising approach"
  3. "The President is denied proper control over the federal budget ... To remedy this, we support enhanced authority to prevent wasteful spending, including a line-item veto"
  4. "We need coordination between fiscal and monetary policy, timely information about Fed decisions, and an end to the uncertainties people face in obtaining money and credit ... The Gold Standard may be a useful mechanism for realizing the Federal Reserve's determination to adopt monetary policies needed to sustain price stability"
  5. "The greatest danger today to our international trade is a growing protectionist sentiment"
  6. "The Republican Party has deep concern about gratuitous sex and violence in the entertainment media, both of which contribute to the problem of crime against children and women"
  7. "We Republicans emphasize that there is a profound moral difference between the actions and ideals of Marxist-Leninist regimes and those of democratic governments, and we reject the notions of guilt and apology which animate so much of the foreign policy of the Democratic Party"
  8. "Stable and peaceful relations with the Soviet Union are possible and desirable, but they depend upon the credibility of American strength and determination"
  9. "We ... reaffirm our support for a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children"
  10. "We affirm our country's absolute fight to control its borders ... Those desiring to enter must comply with our immigration laws ... Failure to do so not only is an offense to the American people but is fundamentally unjust to those in foreign lands patiently waiting for legal entry ... We will preserve the principle of family reunification"
Read the full 1984 Democratic platform here. 10 Excerpts:
  1. "Instead of runaway deficits, a Democratic Administration will pursue overall economic policies that sharply reduce deficits, down interest rates, free savings for private investment, prevent another explosion of inflation and put the dollar on a competitive footing"
  2. "We will pursue international negotiations to open markets and eliminate trade restrictions, recognizing that the growth and stability of the Third World depends on its ability to sell its products in international markets"
  3. "The Environmental Protection Agency should receive a budget that exceeds in real dollars the agency's purchasing power when President Reagan took office, since the agency's workload has almost doubled in recent years"
  4. "After four years in which the roll of dishonor in the Administration has grown weekly and monthly—from Richard Allen to Rita Lavelle, from Thomas Reed to James Watt—it is time for an end to the embarrassment of Republican cronyism and malfeasance"
  5. "Violent acts of bigotry, hatred and extremism aimed at women, racial, ethnic and religious minorities, and gay men and lesbians have become an alarmingly common phenomenon ... A Democratic Administration will work vigorously to address, document, and end all such violence"
  6. "In the year made famous by George Orwell, we can see the realization of many of his grimmest prophecies in the totalitarian Soviet state, which has amassed an arsenal of weapons far beyond its defensive needs"
  7. "Sadly, Mr. Reagan has opted for the all too frequent American response to the unrest that has characterized Central America-military assistance ... Over the past 100 years, Panama. Nicaragua, and Honduras have all been occupied by U.S. forces in an effort to suppress indigenous revolutionary movements"
  8. "A Democratic President will pursue a foreign policy that advances basic civil and political rights—freedom of speech, association, thought and religion, the right to leave, freedom of the integrity of the person, and the prohibition of torture, arbitrary detention and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment—and that seeks as well to attain basic, economic, social, and cultural rights"
  9. "We support tough restraints on the manufacture, transportation, and sale of snub-nosed handguns, which have no legitimate sporting use and are used in a high proportion of violent crimes"
  10. "...the Reagan Administration has acted as if deficits do not count ... The deficits are huge and are expected to get larger—and they are a major negative factor in everything from high interest rates to the third world debt crisis"

2020.08.23 22:42 techwabbit First Time: MS13 member charged with Terrorism-related Offenses - DOJ Announces - Trump Task Force to Dismantle MS-13 Takes Down Gang’s Key Leaders - Judicial Watch

Trump Task Force to Dismantle MS-13 Takes Down Gang’s Key Leaders
Some good news for a change. A special task force launched by President Donald Trump to gut the nation’s deadliest street gang has taken down key leaders in less than a year and for the first time charged a gang banger with terrorism-related offenses. The feared street gang of mostly Central American illegal immigrants, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), has spread throughout the U.S. and is renowned for drug distribution, murder, rape, robbery, home invasions, kidnappings, vandalism and other violent crimes. The Justice Department’s National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC) says criminal street gangs like MS-13 are responsible for the majority of violent crimes in the U.S. and are the primary distributors of most illicit drugs.
Thanks to Barack Obama’s open border policies, MS-13 was energized with new recruits provided by a steady flow of illegal immigrant minors. When the Obama administration started welcoming a barrage of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) in 2014, Homeland Security sources told Judicial Watch that the nation’s most violent street gangs—including MS-13 and the 18th Street gang—were actively recruiting new members at U.S. shelters housing the minors. The Texas Department of Public Safety subsequently confirmed that the MS-13 is a top tier gang thanks to the influx of illegal alien gang members that crossed into the state under Obama’s disastrous program, which saw over 60,000 illegal immigrants—many with criminal histories—storm into the U.S. in a matter of months. Tens of thousands more have entered since then.
POTUS - Executive Order - Presidential Executive Order on Enforcing Federal Law with Respect to Transnational Criminal Organizations and Preventing International Trafficking - Feb. 2017
President Trump vowed to crush the famously savage MS-13 and shortly after taking office issued an Executive Order directing several agencies, including the departments of Justice, State and Homeland Security, to coordinate an effort to restore safety for the American people by extinguishing transitional criminal organizations such as MS-13. The order states that the criminal groups have spread throughout the nation, threatening the safety of the United States and its citizens. “These organizations derive revenue through widespread illegal conduct, including acts of violence and abuse that exhibit a wanton disregard for human life,” the order says. “They, for example, have been known to commit brutal murders, rapes, and other barbaric acts. These groups are drivers of crime, corruption, violence, and misery.” The president gives federal agencies 120 days to report progress in combating the criminal organizations as well as recommended actions for dismantling them.
In August 2019 Attorney General William Barr launched an initiative known as Joint Task Force Vulcan (JTFV) to address MS-13 with a coordinated force of federal law enforcement agencies and the Department of Justice (DOJ). JTFV has increased collaboration with foreign law enforcement partners, including in El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala; designated priority MS-13 programs, cliques and leaders, who have the most impact on the U.S., for targeted prosecutions, and; coordinated significant MS-13 indictments in U.S. Attorney’s Offices across the country, such as New York, Virginia and Nevada. Less than a year after its formation, the task force has recorded big successes. This week the DOJ announced a number of significant JTFV cases, including for the first time an MS-13 member being charged with terrorism-related offenses, the take down of the MS-13 Hollywood leadership and the Attorney General’s decision to seek the death penalty against an MS-13 operative. (emphasis mine) JTFV Director John Durham calls it the result of tremendous teamwork between prosecutors and law enforcement officers across the United States and Central America.
The cases announced this week include an indictment against a high-ranking MS-13 operative, Melgar Diaz, in Virginia. Diaz is charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, conspiring to kill or maim persons overseas, conspiring to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, conspiring to finance terrorism, and; conspiring to engage in narco-terrorism, in addition to racketeering conspiracy and drug trafficking. In another case eight MS-13 members were indicted in New York for committing six murders, two attempted murders, kidnapping, narcotics felonies and related firearms offenses. In Nevada 13 MS-13 gang bangers, including leaders of the “Hollywood Locos” clique and “Los Angeles Program” were charged with multiple counts of narcotics distribution and weapons crimes. The task force is also responsible for the indictment in New York of Alexi Saenz, an MS-13 leader accused of committing seven murders, including two high school students with a machete and baseball bat. “MS-13 is a violent transnational criminal organization, whose criminal activities respect no boundaries,” said Durham, the JTFV director. “The only way to defeat MS-13 is by targeting the organization as a whole, focusing on the leadership structure, and deploying a whole-of-government approach against a common enemy.” (emphasis mine)
I don't believe in being soft on violent criminals. This isn't a cruel stand, its a fact of life, that those people who will perform a violent crime once, statistically will do so again.
Highlights:
  • The violent crime rate in the United States rose 7% from 2014 to 2016 (from 362 to 387 violent crimes per 100,000 persons) and fell 5% from 2016 to 2018 (from 387 to 369 per 100,000 persons).
  • The murder rate (including non-negligent manslaughter) in the U.S. rose 23% from 2014 to 2016 and fell 7% from 2016 to 2018.
  • The rate of rape (revised definition) in the U.S. rose every year from 2014 to 2018, rising 15% over that span.
  • The U.S. robbery rate rose 2% from 2014 to 2016 and fell 16% from 2016 to 2018. The U.S. aggravated assault rate rose 8% from 2014 to 2016 and fell 0.6% from 2016 to 2018.
https://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=6929
However, we all know those crimes have risen significantly in 2019-2020 as the Dem's along with BLM and Antifa wage wars in our cities.
While Dem's let criminals out of jail, burn our cities and put Small Biz America outa work, our DOJ and Barr are hard at work attempting to make our street safers and put criminals in Jail.
What a stark and extremely relevant contrast in our present day Cultural War.
  • What do you think about this?
  • What do you think about MS 13 leader being charged under Terrorism Statutes?

2020.08.18 06:22 throwawayjack89 I hate feeling like shit for things I know I didn't have any control over during the last 8 years.

Not only do I feel like shit for thing I didn't have control over, I am an absolute control freak and very short fused as a result of events that have shaped my life over the last 8 years as a result of my mother and father. I also am a very self destructive person in a way people are not likely to notice there is anything wrong with me.
Let me start by saying that while my dad was no saint, that's who I had to turn over because for one he never left me alone, and secondly, what happened in the family made me choose sides anyways and no matter what the old man did he and I didn't deserve being fucked over. Especially I.
Long story short the last 8 years have been hell. Not only did my dad died back in February and I have had to bear his death in isolation for the last few months. He became an alcoholic and a womanizer again partly by choice partly by trauma. And being completely alone has taken such a toll on me I can't be for a few days without someone around.
See, my mother and my oldest stepbrother (son of my dad but not of mom) have been sleeping together since at least 2007 as far as we could tell, but it might go back even further. I don't know.
What I do know is that when we found out I fell into a deep depression because I knew the family I had was over. I could see the writing in the wall and I hate knowing I did as much as I do now. Mind, this was already bad enough. But when my dad forgave her she not only kept fucking my brother, but started abusing my father. My dad endured it but became increasingly more and more of an alcoholic and his mental fortitude declined to such an extent that he almost killed my mother in desperation. Now this doesn't excuse his actions, I acknowledge he was wrong in resorting to abusing his abuser and I repeatedly brought it to him as a point of criticism I have for him, but not of shame, as I understand what he was going thru.
Now, not only this was all going on and my dad almost ended up in prison and everyone wanted a pound of his flesh (even my own brother who I know was manipulating a lot of events behind the shadows) but I also had to do some highly unethical and technically legal actions to help my dad out (no violent crimes committed on my part, tho sometimes I wish I had) and my brothers ended up taking their side somewhat or alternatively neglecting I am a human with feelings (younger brother making my oldest stepbrother his best man at their wedding, sister hiding from he my oldest brother was going to attend, etc), and they gleefully were not only in denial that what he had done was wrong, they also manipulated a lot of people to get money to scrap by and shit. They took 10,000 dollars by fooling my uncle into giving it to them, got my extended family to support them and become business partners with him on some sketchy sounding businesses, and so on.
As time went on I became more bitter at the situation and my dad would notice it and tell me to move on. Like it was easy to jist forgive. And then it happened. My old man died on February. I got a call from the local DA while he was on his vacation home and thru a sheer miracle they managed to get my information. I made an emergency trip before the lockdowns started happening. Sorted my dad's shit as best I could out there then came back home, a complete wreck but needing to push forward on May. I was scared and had a bad vibe but I had to anyways. Now, people who know me know I have a devil may care attitude but I felt like a shitstorm was coming on to me.
Boy was I not wrong.
Turns out because I was being secretive (because my dad told me not to say anything to them) including my younger sister (who I distrust as someone seeking information from me but I can't do anything about it) they decided to neglect my home. They say it was simply that I did not tell them but they knew what they were doing. They stole all my father's gold which was meant for emergencies, and all his guns. I had to spend thousands of dollars on new guns I proudly own and not only that but in my anger I had a spat with my oldest brother and I threatened to kill him if he stepped foot in this home. He admitted he had sent people to stalk me, find information about me, and relay everything to him, they freaked the fuck out when they couldn't find me after I left their first contact (an uncle from extended family they had setup as my "guardian", I am 31, I can take care of myself). They threatened to ruin my life if I do anything sketchy (lmao right), that I was a nobody in El Salvador and a nobody here, and that they had more pull than I did. Not only that he admitted the obvious, that he was still fucking my mother. I am somewhat concerned how far did they go, and if they had a part into manipulating events to lead my dad to jis untimely death. He died drunk in a pool as he fell and busted his head on the lip of the pool. I sometimes wonder if they paid people to put him down that path of depression knowing what I know about them now.
I have thought of destroying their lives one by one, I have thought of seeking retribution by violent means, and I also have gotten to the point my stress is making me physically sick and the loneliness is making me see a dramatic change in my mental health. Gone is the guy that was abandoned at 7, had a shitty childhood as a result and managed to claw back out of that hole twice already. Now I am just a spiteful, lonely mess of a human being with my former issues coming back in full force and slowly destroying my relationships and health since I am self destructing with work but with the added bonus of a seething hatred towards my family.
As for the title, I feel guilty as a result of survivor bias I suppose and the fact I think about all the small things I said that my mom probably took as me validating her relationship which hung me with a rope I didn't even know I had given her, and I feel partially guilty for having my dad listen to my bullshit about my issues with all of this so often. I feel like I degraded his mental health or that at least I was a part in it. No doubt he loved me and he had to be strong for me and his loss has left me desolate and broken, but I do wonder.
I cut them all off for the best, but it is still painful and I just want to disappear and forget about all of them. I have told this to other friends but I suppose putting it in public was a thing I needed to do, for my sake, and get this out of my chest.
I might come back and edit as people ask for more details or reply to comments if I get asked questions. I dunno.

2020.08.08 13:35 youto2 House Party 8/03/20 - Part One

We open our scene, as we get a panning shot of the Knoxville Civic Auditorium! The top deck may be taped off, but that does not mean we do not have an excited crowd on hand, as we see many cups of beer flowing, as they chant-
Crowd: W-I-R! W-I-R! W-I-R!
We then pan over to our commentary table, where we see Paisner and Woodbridge with wide smiles, looking hype for tonights action!
Paisner: Hello everyone! And welcome to another edition of House Party, coming to you live from Knoxville, Tennessee! I’m Allen Paisner-
Woodbridge: And i’m Mark Woodbridge!
Paisner: And we got another exciting show in store for tonight! Seeing action such as the debut of the most hot, and the most ready new tag team on the block, as Hot’N’Ready take on Red Army, who certainly are not happy after Ivanov’s loss to Buster last week! We got classic big v small action in Oona Slash vs Hugo Ironblood! A battle of the yet to be defeated, vs the yet to win, as Seth Blackheart coming off of two consecutive victories in his first matches, faces the 0-3 Jim Baker looking to prove himself! We will see the in-ring return of Klutch as he faces off against the devient that is Big Larry, plus add potential Balandran revenge to the mix? That’s a hot kettle right there! And in our main event, leader of The Horde and #1 Contender to the Independent Championship, Tony Stevens, fights the eccentric Dexter Flux who just…..kind of took one of the jackets The Horde produced after Stephen Romero didn’t really want it. But enough talk now! Into the action!
We cut to Javier, stationed in the center of the ring
Javier: The following contest is scheduled for one fall-
Crowd: ONE FALL!!
Javier: And…
Javier pauses and looks at Paisner. He mouths an “I’m sorry” and continues
Javier: Is sponsored by Ballsweat 2.0, More Balls, Less Sweat!
The crowd boos.
Woodbridge: Looks like Ballsweat 2.0 isn’t over.
Paisner: Under my legal console, I can’t answer either way, Mark.
Woodbridge: I can, Allen. As much as I don’t like Klutch, Balandran has an asskicking coming, and he’ll get his, you watch.
Limp Bizkit’s My Generation plays over the PA as Big Larry comes barreling out of the curtain, getting a small hometown pop
Javier: From Knoxville, Tennessee, weighing in at 250 pounds, BIG...LLLLLLLARRY!
Woodbridge: Big Larry wanting to go big tonight, Allen!
Paisner: Well, Big Larry has the home field advantage tonight, but with his opponent, I doubt that’ll help his chances.
Woodbridge: Either way, we’re gonna have a HOSS FIGHT TONIGHT! WOO!
Woodbridge downs a PBR as Big Larry steps over the top rope. He does a taunt to the crowd getting a mixed reaction, then waves them off like they’re below him. He goes into his corner as his music slowly fades out.
Javier: And his opponent.
The bass and drums from “Huka Blues” by Harry and the Slashtones plays over the PA as the crowd erupts.
Paisner: He’s back!
Klutch enters the arena as the saxophone enters the song. The crowd cheers as Javier continues his introduction
Javier: From Wherever He May Roam, weighing 295 pounds, KLUTCH!
Crowd: WELCOME BACK! WELCOME BACK!
Woodbridge: Klutch, a man who drank old Crystal Pepsi, put on a mask in an insane asylum, dropped acid for a solid month, ran a religious cult, and finally, has a heart of iron, is looking absolutely great here!
Paisner: But you gotta ask the question, hell, I gotta ask the question: Will he be ready in time? Balandran is a fresher, younger, and definitely more fit than The Man of a Thousand Gimmicks.
Woodbridge: This man is a former Independer Champion, a former Tag Team Champion, and on top of that, he’s dangerous and has the guts. And that may be enough.
Paiser: As he enters the ring here, he must put Balandran on the back burner, and worry about the man in front of him, Big Larry.
Klutch enters the ring, and looks down Big Larry. They meet face to face as the music fades out.
Woodbridge: HOSS FIGHT! HOSS FIGHT!
Harry Undersach somehow pushes them apart, and looks at Larry, who signals he’s ready, then at Klutch who does the same. Undersach then signals for the bell.
DING DING DING
Both Big Larry and Klutch charge each other, locking up. Big Larry overpowers Klutch, pushing him into his corner. Klutch holds up his arms, acknowledging Larry’s strength. Larry does a muscle man pose toward Klutch, laughing at him in the process.
Crowd: BOOOO!
Klutch then motions for him to lock up again, Larry obliging. They move around a bit, Larry pushing Klutch into the ropes, signaling Undersach to start the count. Larry breaks the lockup, moving back slowly. Klutch then moves towards his corner again, catching his breath
Woodbridge: Both of these men feeling each other out here, clearly there is some brute strength being shown by Big Larry.
Paisner: Klutch has been known to show strength, but he’s also never been eye to eye with a man like Big Larry!
Klutch motions for one more lock up. Big Larry charges in, only to be greeted by a swift kick to the gut, then an uppercut to Larry’s jaw, shooting Larry back to an upright position.
Crowd: OHHHHH!
Klutch runs against the ropes, giving Larry a huge lariat, sending Larry down to the ground, getting the crowd hyped. Klutch then runs the ropes again, dropping a big elbow on the heart of Big Larry, going for the pin
ONE
Quick kickout by Larry. Klutch gets back to his feet, followed closely by Larry. They lock up again, only Klutch is able to get a side headlock on him. Larry pushes Klutch off of him, sending Klutch to the ropes. Klutch ricochets off of the ropes, setting up for a lariat, which Larry dodges. Klutch bounces off the opposite side, which Larry sets up for a clothesline, which Klutch ducks under. One more bounce and Klutch finally greets Larry with a huge right hand, sending Larry into the ropes.
Crowd: OHHHHH!
Using the momentum, Larry bounces off the ropes and delivers a right of his own. Klutch, also feeling the momentum, bounces off of the ropes and delivers a hard lariat, causing both men to collapse. Klutch quickly goes for the pin.
ONE
Not even close. Larry kicks out. Klutch gets to a kneeling position, frustrated.
Woodbridge: Both men are trying as hard as they can to knock the other out. Klutch, thus far keeping up, but what can he do to put Big Larry away?
Paisner: Well punches seem to not be doing the trick. Klutch has got to try something else.
Klutch, back to a standing position, gives Larry, who is back on his knees, a swift kick to the back. Klutch gives another kick, this time targeting the kidneys.
Crowd: OHHHHH!
Woodbridge: We’re seeing some old school Klutch here. He is using his brute force to focus on the back. If Big Larry can’t lift, he can’t win.
Klutch then targets Big Larry’s right leg, giving another swift kick. Klutch backs off a bit to hype up the crowd. The crowd pops as Klutch turns his attention to Big Larry, who is now getting back up. Klutch goes to grab him, but is met with a big punch to the gut, followed by another punch to the gut.
Crowd: OHHH!
Larry gets back to his feet, and throws a right at Klutch. Klutch runs his hand by his mouth, then looks at his mouth, then at Larry. They both then charge at each other, throwing rights back and forth.
Crowd: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Woodbridge: This isn’t even a wrestling match anymore, this is a literal brawl!
Paisner: Klutch, not used to being in the position he’s in, is throwing everything he has at Larry! It’s a fist fight, and we expected nothing less!
Klutch then throws a huge right in the midst of the punches, and knocks back Larry. Larry comes back, but is then greeted by a huge kick to the midsection. He runs the ropes, then meets Larry with a knee lift, followed by a huge forearm smash. Larry goes down, and Klutch looks around, crazed look in his eye. The crowd jumps up with excitement.
Crowd: YAY!
Paisner: AND I THINK IT’S TIME!
Woodbridge: That familiar look in his eye! He’s wanting that piledriver!
Crowd: BOOOO!
Woodbridge: Now what the hell is this?!
From the curtain comes Bernardo, Austin Balandran’s trusted servant. In his hand is a silver platter with a kendo stick. Klutch looks out to the entrance, confused as to what’s going on. The camera then shoots over to a different angle, showing Austin Balandran right behind Klutch with a steel chair.
Paisner: Klutch needs to turn around here! Klutch!
However, too little too late. Balandran smashes Klutch with a huge thunderous shot to the back with the chair.
DING DING DING
Javier: Here is your win..OH SHIT...
Balandran gives that signature cocky smile, assuming he’s finally found the way to tear down Klutch. Klutch, clinching his fists, turns around and sees Balandran’s smile go from wide to non-existent. Balandran goes for another hit, but is met with a swift kick to the gut.
Crowd: YAAAAAY!
Balandran drops the chair, giving Klutch the opportunity to grab the weapon, doing so rather quickly. Klutch grabs the chair and gives Balandran a smack over the back, sending tremors throughout Balandran’s body.
Crowd: OHHHHH!
Balandran quickly rolls out, not wanting any more punishment. Klutch motions for him to come back in. Meanwhile, Bernardo reaches ringside and enters the ring. He grabs the kendo stick and drops the silver platter. He tries to muster up courage as Klutch still has his attention on Balandran. As Bernardo finally gets the nerve, he goes for the swing...only to have Klutch turn around at the last second. He stops in his tracks, having the sheer look of horror on his face. The crowd gets excited, wanting Klutch to destroy Bernardo
Crowd: FUCK HIM UP! FUCK HIM UP!
Paisner: YES! GET HIM! YES!
Woodbridge: Remember the lawsuit?
Paisner: FUCK THE LAWSUIT! PILE DRIVE HIS ASS!
Bernardo drops the kendo stick, and tries to run away, but Klutch grabs him by the hair, and walks him around in the ring. Balandran, who has by now escaped to the entrance, watches in horror as his servant is being punished for his crimes. Klutch, now looking at Balandran again, points at him with his free hand. He then kicks Bernardo in the gut, and places his head in between his legs. Klutch mouths some inaudible words, and picks Bernardo up.
Woodbridge: DIAL THE CLOCK! UNINSTALL WINDOWS!
Klutch piledrives Bernardo, tossing him to the side. He continues to sit on the mat, still locking eyes with Balandran.
Crowd: OHHHHHH!
Paisner: Y2KLUTCH! AND IF KLUTCH HAS HIS WAY, HE’LL PILEDRIVE BALANDRAN STRAIGHT TO HELL!
Woodbridge: ALLEN!
Paisner: I’m sorry. This whole situation has me stressed out. But damn it, I hope, nay I pray, that Klutch can pull off the big one!
Klutch’s music starts back up. He looks around him, and gets back up, hamming it up to the crowd again, getting them excited again.
Crowd: YAAAAY! KLUTCH! KLUTCH! KLUTCH!
Paisner: Folks we’ll be right back!
The lights then cut off for a moment, as ringside crew clean anything around ringside and in the ring itself, before they come back up, as we see Javier, calming himself down from the previous ordeal, getting ready for more announcing.
Javier: The following is a tag team match set for one fall with a 30 minute time limit! Introducing first….
The Sacred War by Red Army Choir blasts throughout the venue, as Ernesto Vargas and Viktor Ivanov step out onto the entranceway, looking like not particularly happy men. As they march their way down to the ring.
Javier: From St. Petersburg, Russia and Buenos Aries, Argentina respectively, weighing in at a combined 412 pounds, Viktor Ivanov, Ernesto Vargas, THE RED ARMY!
Crowd: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Ivanov and Vargas make their way down, Ivanov ignoring all around him, and Vargas jawing with the crowd, as they step into the ring, awaiting their opponents.
This fuckin’ shit begins to play…..as for a good 40 seconds, well after the song kicks in we see nobody come out from behind the curtain, as we look inside the ring and see a deeply impatient looking duo in Vargas and Ivanov, wondering what in the hell is going on. As FINALLY we see Hot’N’Ready out on the entranceway, as we see Damian Pakachio and Ryan Drillian come out from the curtain. With the forever alone rage comic face airbrushed onto both of their tights. As they RUSH down to the ring, sliding into the ring, as before their music even stops, they try and spear both of The Red Army! Damian getting a successful one on Vargas, as Ivanov manages to hold Drillian back, looking more offended and annoyed at what they’re trying to pull than surprised, as he tosses Drillian off of him, then grabs Damian off Vargas and tosses him through the ropes, Vargas rolling out of the ring hurt from the spear. As a very deeply confused Mia calls for the bell seeing just Drillian and Ivanov in the ring.
DING DING DING
Ivanov heads over to Drilliann, and begins to just pound on Drillians’s back! Forcing him down to the mat, before laying in stomps to his back, and grabbing him to toss him across the ring with a bul-plex! Drillian landing roughly on his back, as Ivanov looks all business. Ivanov grabs Drillian, and tosses him into a corner, where he lays into him with a vicious knife edge chop! Reddening Drillian’s chest, then another! And another! And another! Sinking Drillian halfway down in the corner, as Ivanov heads off to the opposite corner, and rushes at Drillian, but Drillian manages to counter!.......by grabbing Ivanov’s nose! Drillian laughs at what he accomplished, as Ivanov looks thrown off by what just happened to him, before pushing Drillian off, but this gives Drillian the opportunity to toss out one cheeky little job to the face of Ivanov, more to pester him than hurt him, before retreating to the ropes, tying himself in them, and repeatedly calling for Mia to enforce a break everytime Ivanov tries to get close to him. Eventually, Ivanov has enough of this shit, as he rushes Drillian anyways, and boots him out of the ring! Mia reprimands him for this, but is not strong enough ground for a DQ, so we continue going, as we see Vargas recover from the spear he took earlier, and pop into their tag corner, and Damian slide into the ring to take Drillian’s place, as Ivanov goes to tag Vargas in.
Vargas and Damian face off from each other, as the two approach each other, before Vargas goes to use his speed to slip behind Damian! Getting a quick go-behind in order to lift and drop Damian face first on the ground, before jumping up into a double foot stomp on the back of Damian! Damian grunting out in pain! Vargas then grabs Damian, and lifts him up, tossing him into a corner where he rushes, and clocks Damian in the head with a high knee! Stunning Damian, as Vargas whips him into the opposite corner and does it again! Then back into the original! Then back into the opposite! Then back into the original! Then back into the opposite, then back into the original, as he finally lets up, and Damian loopily stumble out the corner, former slowly falling in a tree falling like fashion onto his back. Vargas smirks at his work, as he stays against the ropes, and signals for Damian to make his way back up. After a good few moments, Damian begins to stir, first doing so weakly, but eventually pushing himself all the way to his feet, albeit without great balance on his feet, as Vargas then rolls towards him, then springs up for his “Justicia” rolling thunder DDT!........but Damian ducks his head under, and does so at the precise height for Vargas to land his nuts right on top of Damian’s head! Resulting in a low blow as Vargas falls to the mat clutching at his crotch! Mia goes to threaten Damian, but Damian insists that was 1000 percent unintentional, that this was a cade of Vargas just happening to land on his crotch rather than a low blow, and Mia being unable to prove him wrong, lets the match continue.
Damian, sensing an opportunity, walks over to Vargas laying on the mat, as he looks out to the crowd, and hypes them up with a mix of removing his elbow pad and further theatrics, before beginning to repeatedly run the ropes to build up for his “Shitposter’s Gambit” People’s Elbow!....but then we see he just…..keeps running….and running….and running….and running….and running….and running, to the point where Vargas completely recovers sits up, sees what Damian is doing, and just stares in complete befuddlement, as Damian ignores the fact that Vargas has sat up and just…..keeps running. As Damian continues to run, eventually Vargas decides he has enough, and goes to stand up, but right as he does so, Damian stops on his next run back, kicks Vargas in the chest to floor him again, before dropping the elbow on Vargas! A major grin forming on Damian’s face, as Vargas pops up, looking a mix of surprised and deeply offended at what Damian just pulled on him. He rushes at Damian in anger, but Damian sidesteps him, and shadow boxes the air to taunt Vargas, Vargas rushes at Damian again, but unfortunately for him the process is repeated. Vargas then rushes again, but strikes to try and account for the sidestep…...so Damian simply rolls away predicting this adjustment, and does a sort of ta-da! pose at Vargas to further taunt him. Vargas looks deeply angered, as in this state, he charges Damian again, but Damian twirls himself behind Vargas, and slaps him in the back of the head, and for the briefest moment, has a satisfied smirk on his face…...but that is quickly erased by Vargas in his anger mule kicking him in the nuts, dropping Damian to the ground holding at his crotch, as Mia calls for the bell!
DING DING DING
Hot N Ready win by DQ in 4 minutes and 43 seconds, but this does not do them much good, as Vargas repeatedly stomps on the body of Damian, before just pressing his boot into Damian’s throat! We see a recovered Drillian rush into the ring to try and save his partner, but Ivanov rushes into the ring with a chair, and wails Drillian in the back with it before he can do anything to save Damian! Ivanov forcefully throws down the chair on Drillian’s back. As we then see both members of Red Army pick up the respective member of Hot’N’Ready they’re dealing with, Ivanov grabbing Drillian in a gutwrench, Vargas lifting Damian up from behind, as they synchronize their finishers on them! Ivanov drilling Drillian into the mat with his Karelin Lift, lifting the gutwrench high then dropping it into a piledriver on the top of Drillian’s head, and Vargas also spiking Damian as well, performing a standing version of his “Salvador Rojo” poison rana! The crowd tosses trash into the ring at the post-match attack by Red Army, who just look down at Hot’N’Ready with disgust, before leaving the ring, as ringside and medical crew rush into the ring to carry out the nearly unconscious members of Hot’N’Ready.
We happen upon Chad Hammocks, who is stalking around through halls peeking through doors with a microphone in hand and Cameraman Chuck in tow. Hammocks finally peeks through a cracked door to see Stephen Romero and Buster Bravado, who are talking with eachother as Hammocks turns to Cameraman Chuck and lifts up a finger to his mouth to shush him. Hammocks cracks the door a bit further.
Buster: Hey man, all I’m saying is, and I don’t think it’s that controversial, but all I’m saying is, Martin Luther King Jr. was a conniving no good suck-up coon. That’s all I’m saying.
Romero: Its… just, why is this the hill you die on. Jeez. I mean, even Malcolm X-
Buster: AHEM. His name is El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. Come on now.
Romero: Y-yea, sure. Well, even he wouldn’t go as far as to say all that.
Buster: I don’t think you know the first thing about what that beautiful man had to say, but. No worries, that’s why you’ve got me around to educate! It’s a beautiful thing, we share, this big, black, beautiful thing of ours. Solidarity, that is.
Romero: Yea, speaking of solidarity, we did a good job handling The Vanguard last week didn’t we! With you taking on Ivanov in the ring while I took care of the rest of those goons.
Buster whips out his black power pick and begins running it through his afro.
Buster: Of course, I did do most of the work there. I mean, I had it handled like the black part of a knife, but, you did good with the edges, y’know.
Romero turns to Buster with a skeptical glare.
Romero: You do know I saved you the match, right? Like, had I not grabbed Vargas he would’ve broken up the count-
Buster: Nah, I had him down for the three anyways! I think you’re just tryna take credit for my amazing feat of Black Supremacy!
Romero: Come on, dude. You weren’t winning that match if I hadn’t evened the playing field! You’re kidding yourself right now!
Buster: You are trippin right now. I had that match WON! I could’ve taken all those crackers on by myself, there was no need for a brotha like you to steal my thunda! My Black Lightning!
Romero: I saved your ass, don’t get me wrong, you won the match! But the way you yapped off like you did it all on your own… Dunno about Black Lightning, I’m thinkin maybe Black Thunder suits you better since we have to hear all that noise all the damn time?
Buster: Yea? Keep mouthing off to your equal, or I’ll show you a lot more than noi-
Romero looks over at the now wide open door and Hammocks and Cameraman Chuck freeze in their tracks looking like they’ve been caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
Hammocks: Uhh. uhhhhhhhhhh. Uh. fuggin, uhhhhhh. Heyy, this isn’t Sparky’s room, my bad!
Romero: Sparky isn’t even in the company?
Hammocks: SHIT uh, oh damn look is that Yakub behind yall?!?
Buster turns around swiftly, turning his head left and right, and Romero just maintains eye contact with Chad who slinks backwards out of the room and leaves Romero and Buster to their own.
Buster: Wait, but where’d he see Yakub- Fuck, THAT LYING WHITE DEVIL!!
Romero: Listen, Buster, we can’t let these petty quarrels get out of hand. I respect the hell out of ya, but I can only look out for you so much-
The door now creaks back open, but instead of the meek backstage duo, the intimidating figures of Ernesto Vargas and Viktor Ivanov fill the doorframe. Looking like they just finished cleaning up from the previous match, with towels wrapped around themselves. Vargas letting out a smug laugh accompanied by a shit-eating grin while Ivanov looks on without expression.
Vargas: Ay, Che, Que quilombo this “Black Solidarity”! Es un desastre!
Vargas lets out another cocky giggle as Buster takes a step forward in a defensive gesture.
Buster: Y’all came back for another can of Pitch Black Ass Whoopin?
Vargas: Take it easy, fellas. We aren’t here to beat some sense into those heads of yours, as fun as that would be. It’s entertaining enough for me to watch you two burros try to figure out which is the head and which is the tail. Speaking of, it seems pretty clear which one is more committed to a fight from who stepped forward first, eh?
Romero now steps forward, and it becomes clear how much the man towers over everyone else in the room as he steps past Buster to stand face to face with Vargas.
Romero: We may not always see eye to eye- literally and figuratively- but I will toss you across this room like a ragdoll if you question my commitment to our solidarity again.
Vargas still manages to hold an obnoxious grin on his face despite being dwarfed by the man looking down at him.
Vargas: Your friend over there may have managed to beat mine over here, but I guarantee you your kind of solidarity is no match for ours.
Romero: Next week then. 2 on 2. Me and Buster versus you two.
Ivanov speaks up from next to Vargas.
Ivanov: See you.
The Red Army retreats out of the room as Buster now steps up next to Romero.
Buster: Hey.. I know we’ve gotten close as of late but.. We’ve never tagged before, are you sure this is the best ide-
Romero: No more questioning if we can. We go out there and we do.
Romero leaves the room now, leaving alone a Buster Braggadocio who looks more shook than usual at the prospects of what he has now been faced with.
We come back to the ring, where we see Javier in the middle, ready to announce
Javier: The following is a singles match set for one fall, with a 30 minute time limit! Introducing first..
Forboding chords come through, before exploding into hard guitar as The Devil by Blue Stahli plays Seth Blackheart out from behind the curtains. A deep red light coming down on him, as he has a devilishly smug look planted on his face.
Javier: Introducing first, from Columbus, Ohio, weighing in at 223 pounds, SETH BLACKHEART!
Crowd: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Paisner: Down to the ring, one deeply, dangerous man. Striking fear into his opponents with his presentations and promos, then taking their heads off with a vicious punt kick. Two down, Jericho Styles, and a former champion in Ikbal Rizwan, and now one more person in his way, Jim Baker.
Woodbridge: And he’s very confident coming into this, quickly besting another new face on the block, then a very successful veteran, he feels as if there’s little reason to worry about a man with zero wins like Baker, and doesn’t seem terribly receptive on Baker’s attempts at recruitment. He’s earned that confidence tonight, but he has to be careful not to get consumed by it, because that’s even when a demon forged by the fires of hell can get burned.
Blackheart continues to make his way down to the ring, looking around at the crowd with a sense of superiority written on his face, as he makes his way to the ring apron, steps in between the ropes into the ring, and awaits his opponent.
A chugging instrumental comes through the speakers, as we see Jim Baker pop out onto the entranceway. A focused look on his face, as he shadow boxes at the top of the ramp.
Javier: And introducing next, from Cinicinatti, Ohio. Weighing in at 245 pounds, Jim Baker!
Crowd: MIXED RECEPTIONS
Paisner: And now, a man looking for his first taste of glory. Looking to show the high expectations set for him as a former star in many other promotions are ones he can live up to, and looking to protect his security in the profession, lest he take another loss and get left by the wayside due to underperformance.
Woodbridge: Not to mention, if he wants to convince Blackheart to join him and Stevens….then what better way to show his worth than with a victory right?
Baker does a bit more boxing, before walking down to the ring, eyes focused on it, as he drowns out the crowd around him, he makes it to the apron, as he rolls into the ring, staring down Blackheart from across it. Mia then signals to both wrestlers to see if they’re ready, and getting 2 nods, calls for the bell!
DING DING DING
The bell sounds, as the two wrestlers begin to approach one another, inching towards the other, before suddenly as they’re about halfway to each other, Baker bursts at Blackheart! Getting a single leg takedown on him, as he just begins to pound away on him with repeated forearm shots to the skull!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Blackheart begins to black, and goes to quickly squirm his way out of the situation, getting to his feet, as Baker continues to charge at him, before Blackheart mule kicks him in the gut to double him over, then drops to a knee to land an upper throat thrust to Baker! Causing Baker to back off, holding at his neck!
Crowd: BOOOOOOOOOOO!
Blackheart cracks a smirk at getting Baker off of him, before he steps back to hit the ropes and rush back at Baker! But Baker bounces back, and leaps up to take Blackheart down in a Lou Thesz press! Taking Blackheart back to the ground, as this time he rains down closed fist punches onto his head! Blackheart tries to squirm out again, but Baker prevents it this time, by goozling Blackheart by his throat in a chokehold to hold him down to the mat! Mia comes over to count Baker off, Baker continuing to choke and rain down punches on Blackheart until he finally breaks and steps off at the 4 count!
Paisner: Baker taking it right to Blackheart! This man wants a victory at all costs!
Woodbridge: He’s gotta be careful if he’s gonna fight aggressive though, Blackheart is not only fantastic at slowing down the pace and throwing people off their rhythm, but also great at exploiting people’s passions to work against them….such as desperately wanting their first victory in WiR..
Mia keeps Baker backed off from Blackheart until Blackheart begins to stir, whereupon she lets the action continue, as Baker rushes over to grab Blackheart, and whip him into a corner! Whereupon Baker charges, then socks Blackheart in the face with a running forearm smash! Rocking Blackheart as he stumbles out the corner, as Baker quickly moves to Blackheart’s side, grabbing him and dropping him on his neck and shoulders with a belly-to-back suplex!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Baker goes into the cover!
1!
2! No! Blackheart out at 2!
Baker continues right on Blackheart, standing up and laying in a few stomps to Blackheart to keep him hurt, before picking him, and whipping him into the ropes. But instead of letting Blackheart bounce off, Baker instead rushes at Blackheart right as he whips him, and clocks Blackheart with a high knee right as he hits the ropes! Leaving Blackheart stunned against them! Baker then runs off to the opposite set of ropes, and comes back to clock Blackheart with another high knee! This one forcing Blackheart off the ropes as he stumbles towards the center, nearly falling off balance, as Baker then runs the ropes to deliver a third high knee!.........but at the last moment, Blackheart catches the knee, and transitions it into a full grip on the leg, then twists it around for a dragon screw leg whip! Sending Baker’s leg hard into the mat, as he writhes around in pain, while Blackheart lays on the mat from all he just took!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Paisner: Blackheart cutting Baker off with a destructive dragon whip to the leg! Taking away all of Baker’s work, and making it harder to get future work in with the pain coursing through that leg!
Baker holds tightly at his leg, as Blackheart begins to stir, shaking himself off and trying to get his head straight, as he forces himself back to his feet. Blackheart makes his way up, and walks over to Baker, grabbing Baker up with a handful of hair and tossing him into a corner. Where upon doing so, he whacks Baker in the face with a hard palm strike! Stunning Baker, as he alternates to hit him with the other palm! Baker sinking a bit in the corner from the impact, as Blackheart grabs him by the chin to re-set him in the corner, as he lays in another vicious palm strike to Baker! This one instantly sinking Baker halfway down in the corner!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Blackheart then stretches out a leg, as he places it on top of Baker’s throat! Choking Baker out in the corner! Baker tries to grab Blackheart’s leg to pry him off with bruteforce, but Blackheart just pushes his boot in harder, and continues to choke Baker out until the 4 count!
Crowd: BOOOOOOOOO!
Blackheart releases his boot from Baker’s neck, as Baker drops completely in the corner, falling to a seated position as he desperately tries to get air back into his body. Blackheart then grabs Baker up from his seated position in the corner, as he begins striking at him again! This time pelting with closed fist punches to the face that Mia reprimands him for, but Blackheart brushes off. Blackheart then switches up to deliver a rough uppercut to the chin of Baker! Stunning him in place, ensuring Blackheart an opportunity to rush off to the opposite corner!
Paisner: Blackheart taking solid control after the dragon whip! Looking to tear Baker apart bit by bit!
Blackheart eyes Baker from across the ring with malicious intent, as he then charges out the corner at Baker! But before Blackheart can attack, Baker gets a foot up! Going to boot the charging Blackheart in the face, but Blackheart has a response to the attempted counter! Managing to stop himself and grab Baker’s outstretched leg, before lifting his own to kick the back of Baker’s leg! Baker groans in pain, as he bends down clutching at his leg, giving Blackheart the opening to grab Baker’s head, and spike him into the mat with a snap DDT! Baker’s head PLANTED into the ground!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Paisner: Blackheart with counters for counters! Always a man who seems one step ahead of his opponents! Blackheart into a cover!
1!
2! No! Kickout from Baker!
As Baker kicks out, Blackheart crawls off of him, and begins to signal for Baker to get to his feet, as Blackheart slowly rises up himself! Baker lays on the mat for a good few moments, before we see him stir and begin to push himself up to his feet. Baker slowly pushes his way up, nearly falling back down a few times from how loopy the DDT made him, but eventually makes his way up, as Blackheart quickly grabs him and sets his head between his legs! Then going to lift him up for a piledriver! But as he does so, we see Baker manage to fight back, kicking his legs and struggling until Blackheart is forced to set him down! Blackhear then tries to lift Baker up again, but Baker drops to a knee to prevent this! Blackheart tries to brute force through this, but Baker shifting his center of gravity successfully stops this! Blackheart then swings his arms to club Baker in the back! Trying to break him back down! Eventually pounding him down towards the mat enough, to where he feels comfortable re-grabbing him to set his head between his legs once more, but suddenly, Baker grabs both of Blackheart’s legs, and trips him down onto the mat! Keeping hold of both of the legs!
Crowd: WOAHHHHHHHHHH!
Paisner: Baker reversing the piledriver! Now has grasp of both of Blackheart's legs, and if last week is any indication, we know exactly what he could be going for!
Baker fights to try and turn Blackheart over, as Blackheart fights back himself, trying to scoot his way back towards the ropes, but just as it seems he’s right about to reach out to them, Baker lifts one of his legs, and plants a stomp right into the middle of Blackheart’s chest! Pushing all the air out of Blackheart’s body, as he clutches at his chest, as the distraction from the pain gives Baker his chance to drag Blackheart back into the middle of the ring, as he continues to try and turn him over! But Blackheart now fights back! Struggling against them, repeatedly preventing Baker from turning him over onto his front! Eventually, Blackheart begins to push his legs and kick at Baker’s face! Pelting him with kicks until Baker is forced to let go! Baker takes a moment holding at his face, before quickly trying to rush back in and flip Blackheart over before he can resist, but Blackheart sends another kick until Baker’s face to keep him back! Baker stumbles back for a moment, before attempting to come back, and lay in another stomp to Blackheart’s chest, but Blackheart catches the boot! And uses it to trip Baker up, Baker now on his back, as Blackheart gets to his feet, the leg still in his grasp, before he somersaults over to deliver a rough leg snap to Baker!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Baker yells out in pain, as he sits up clutching at his leg, as Blackheart sees this, and takes the moment to run the ropes, and comes back with a penalty kick, but instead of aiming at the chest, he aims for the head as he sends Baker’s body flat on the mat!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Paisner: JESUS! What a vicious kick from Blackheart! Taking Baker’s head off! Into the cover!
1!
2! No! Kickout from Baker!
Baker’s eyes stare out wide into the distance, as Blackheart sits on the mat for a moment, taking a good second to catch his breath and stretch out some of the pain coursing through his body. Blackheart then begins to push himself up to his feet, sweat dripping off of him, his breathing heavy, as he grabs Baker up by his hair, and brings him to his feet. Blackheart, with Baker’s hair still clutched firmly in his hands, then lays in a forearm shot to the face of Baker! Decking Baker to the mat!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Baker stares up at the lights with a thousand yard stare, as Blackheart grabs him by the hair yet again, bringing him up, before decking him once more with a stiff forearm! Baker dropping to the mat yet again!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
After Baker is dropped this time, we see him try and push himself up, but only being able to do so very slowly because of the pain he’s being put through, giving Blackheart ample time to grab him by the hair once more, bring him up yet again, and deck him to the mat with a third forearm shot!
Crowd: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Paisner: Blackheart just unleashing destruction on Baker right now! Looking to pummel him into submission!
Baker hits the mat, but we see him fight to push through, this time stronger than before, as he grabs hold of Blackheart’s gear and begins to pull himself up by it. Gritting his teeth through the pain! Blackheart looks angered that Baker is still moving, and so grabs his hair again, and tosses back another forearm, this one followed through with malice behind it! Flooring Baker again…...who we see begin to quickly rise up! A look of determination on his face as he grabs Blackheart’s gear to pull himself up!
Crowd: WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Blackheart looks took aback by this, not even able to react to grab the hair of Baker, who he tosses another forearm shot right at! Decking him once more….but Baker quickly rises up, and tosses out his own hard forearm! Flooring Blackheart to the mat, as Baker then collapses to the ground!
Crowd: WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Paisner: BAKER! Taking these shots from Blackheart but rising up to deliver his own! By god this man wants this win!
Woodbridge: This is what I say a lot about wrestling, a man’s character does not reflect his passions, even if they have a habit of beating up hippies, that does not mean they don’t care in the same way technicos do!

2020.08.05 02:29 gregathon_1 If someone tells you we live in a patriarchy, show them this post.

According to a study done in 2012, men usually receive 63% longer sentencing for the same crime than women do. [1] There are clearly large gender gaps favoring women throughout the sentence length distribution. Another meta-analysis found that it was advantageous for defendants to be physically attractive, female, white, and of high socioeconomic status. [2] Men receive capital punishment 100x as much as women. [3] In a study done by the University of San Fransisco Law, it found that women guilty of capital murder were far less likely to receive the death penalty than men who had done capital murder and that people who killed women were more likely to receive capital punishment than people who killed men. [4]
In the U.K., women are only jailed for serious crimes as the new Justice Secretary revealed in July of 2018. [5] While men get jailed for the most minor offenses, such as smoking weed in their own home (and get large prison sentences), women only get jailed for actually serious crimes such as murder, treason, or robbery. This is not even a new concept, as in the 1800s, whatever crime a woman committed, her husband served time for it. [6] How is this patriarchy? Feminists seem to think that chivalry was misogynistic or sexist against women, but, in reality, it protected and privileged them in almost every way.
Faculty in STEM fields have demonstrated a preference for female applicants over equally qualified male applicants by a factor of 2:1. [7] If women were being pushed away from STEM, how would this be the case?
A paper just published in the British Journal of Psychology led by Steve Stewart-Williams found that people respond to research on sex differences in ways that favor females. In two studies, participants were asked to read a popular science article that was experimentally manipulated to suggest that either men or women have a more desirable quality (for example, men/women are better at drawing or men/women lie less often). Participants evaluated the female-favoring research more favorably than male-favoring research. Specifically, participants found the female-favoring research more important, more plausible, and more well-conducted and found the male-favoring research more offensive, more harmful, more upsetting, and more inherently sexist. This pro-female bias was observed among both male and female participants, and in study two, the researchers replicated the results in a south-east Asian sample. [8]
We have also found that people have a stronger desire to censor science that disfavors women. In this study, participants were asked to read a series of passages from books and to decide whether the text should be censored (for example, whether it should be removed from the library, whether a professor should not be allowed to require it for class). One passage argued that either men or women make better leaders. The results showed that people wanted to censor the book more when it argued that men make better leaders than women than when it argued the opposite. [9]
According to a study done by Developmental Science, on the development of implicit and explicit gender attitudes, found that both sexes are significantly biased towards females over males. “Findings demonstrate that implicit and explicit own-gender preferences emerge early in both boys and girls, but implicit own-gender preferences are stronger in young girls than boys. In addition, female participants’ attitudes remain largely stable over development, whereas male participants’ implicit and explicit attitudes show an age-related shift towards increasing female positivity. Gender attitudes are an anomaly in that social evaluations dissociate from social status, with both male and female participants tending to evaluate female more positively than male.” [10]
A meta-analysis found that women, on average, receive substantially more help than men, and men give more help than they receive. [11] This is backed up by the literally innumerable amount of money spent on female causes. For instance, federal and state money subsidizes more than 15,000 women’s studies courses versus a measly 91 men’s studies courses. In Canada, Canada’s Department of Education helps fund the Canadian equivalent of the National Organization for Women 7 and every Canadian province has a Women’s Directorate (Ontario’s has a staff of fifty-one and a budget of $8 million per year). A Google Scholar search for misogyny yielded 114,000 results, whereas a search for misandry yielded only 2,340. The data is pretty clear: people are vastly more sympathetic toward women and their causes than they are to men.
Boys also receive vastly more corporal punishment than girls (such as getting paddled), along with African-Americans and Hispanics. [12] Why do boys have to receive violent education when women who misbehave and do the exact same offense do not?
Girls earn significantly better grades than boys in the education system unlike what is found in scholastic achievement tests, according to a meta-analysis done by the University of New Brunswick.[13] Another study done by OECD confirmed this very fact: when the teacher does not know that the student is a boy, his grade is put at least ⅓ higher than it already is. [14] This shows a significant bias towards girls in terms of grading since it has nothing to do with scores.
The pressure to be masculine amongst men is also significantly greater than the pressure to feminine amongst girls. The teenage suicide rate amongst gays is 3x as high as the suicide rate amongst lesbians. [15] This implies that effeminate men are more likely to get bullied than women who act more manly. Think about it: if a girl showed up to school or work dressed manly (say with a suit), no one would bat an eye; but, if a boy showed up anywhere with a dress, he would be completely laughed at and made fun of.
Additionally, in family courts, women win 90% of all child custody cases. [16] This is plain and simple misandry (or sexism against men) in the court system, and no one talks about it. There is absolutely no reason why a woman has more of a right to her own child than a man, and to claim otherwise would be discriminatory.
Men also pay 97% of alimony (or financial support to their spouse post-divorce). [17] Men don’t make that much more money than women (considering the wage gap is not that large), and, therefore, should not have to pay that much alimony. Once again, plain and simple misandry.
Men are also exploited as cash machines by other women in relationships. 70% of U.K. women would instantly change their minds about leaving a boring man if he won a lottery jackpot. [18] 78% of US women said a partner with a steady job was the most important trait in a future spouse. [19] 75% of women say that they would have a problem with dating someone who doesn’t have a job, and only 4% of women would go out with an unemployed man. [20] In China, women expect men to provide apartments along with a cash marriage offer in order to have a relationship. [21] Women are seen as sex objects, but men are seen as success and money objects. A man’s success and wealth matter more than his individual character.
In life-threatening situations (such as abandoned ships), women and children are always saved first. [22] When a man and woman fail to protect, the results are always different. For instance, when a male captain failed to control his ship and the resultant oil spill destroyed wildlife, the names Exxon Valdez and Captain Joseph Hazelwood became infamous. Captain Hazelwood was put on trial, fined, and imprisoned. He became the pitiful butt of jokes by Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. His drinking was highlighted. The fact that a sudden schedule change had pushed an exhausted captain and crew back to sea and into a ruined career was ignored. So, what happens when a female captain does that?
When a female air traffic controller failed at her job and the resultant air crash killed thirty-four humans (not wildlife), her colleagues took her to a hotel to shield her from publicity. They spent days comforting her. Instead of being the butt of jokes, she received humor therapy, paid for by taxes. Rather than sue her, the Federal Aviation Administration provided her with a counselor. Instead of publicizing her name, the National Transportation Safety Board cooperated in keeping her identity secret from the public. To this day, her name remains virtually unknown. Headlines in papers from the Los Angeles Times to The New York Times focused on her grief, not the grief of the families of those killed or the ruined lives of those injured, for instance: “Controller Was Stricken by Grief, Tears after Crash.” If this is true, then how would the misogyny theory make sense? We clearly accept female error a lot better than we do male error, so this would point to an entirely different narrative than most feminists push.
Male genital mutilation is also legal, but female genital mutilation is not. While some forms of female genital mutilation are a lot worse than male genital mutilation, both are not O.K. If you look at the procedure of circumcision, it is quite horrible; the baby is screaming and crying as his penis’ foreskin is retracted using a clamp. [23] - Warning: Graphic The fact that male babies should be allowed to get tortured and reduced sexual pleasure should be something eliminated and removed from society if we want to get anywhere towards gender equality.
In terms of domestic violence, 70.7% of domestic violence is female-perpetrated [24]; and according to the CDC, 53.3% percent of men had been the victims of intimate partner violence in the past 12 months. [25] So, the question remains: why are there no domestic violence shelters for men? Even though it is true that a lot of domestic violence against females go unreported, the media still paints domestic violence as a female-only issue when the statistics (of reported cases) shows otherwise.
Every time, women are killed somewhere, in the news headline, it is almost unanimously made clear that, indeed, a woman was killed; but when a man is killed, he is usually referred to as a person., Take for instance, the Chibok schoolgirl kidnappings where hundreds of schoolgirls were kidnapped by a terrorist group called Boko Haram [26]; everyone from Barack and Michelle Obama [27] to the U.K. government [28] denounced the kidnappings as misogynistically intended kidnappings made to take away education from girls. However, almost none of these girls were actually killed; they were put into an arranged marriage with the chance to escape. The boys, on the other hand, were burned and killed; and mind you, they were called “people,” “students,” and “villagers,” not “boys” or “men.” [29], [30], [31], [32], [33], [34], [35] In one of the reports written by AFP, it is said: “A hundred and six people, including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen…” [36]
According to an Oxfam protection survey, 41% more killings were of men and boys by Boko Haram than of women and girls [37]; the number was even higher amongst adults, with 77% more men killed than women. Whenever girls are killed (or kidnapped), their gender must be mentioned since it has to do with that; but when it’s boys killed, it’s just a group of individuals dead and must never have anything to do with their gender. Studies have confirmed this as well, that female victims (and especially white females) are focused most in the media. [38]
This plays into the concept of “male expendability,” or the idea that in society, female life matters more than male life. In 1998, shortly after the Rwandan genocide, Hillary Clinton gave a speech in El Salvador, saying: “Women have always been the primary victims of war. Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in combat.” [39] This implies that the men who died aren’t really the victims of war; it is women who matter because they are impacted by the death of men, not because the men, in and of themselves, died.
The “male disposability hypothesis” is also backed up by many studies. In 2016, a study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science where it found that people would be significantly more willing to sacrifice men than women in times of crisis; they are also more willing to inflict harm upon men rather than women. [40] A study done in Poland (in 2017) found that people were 3 times as likely to deliver severe electric shocks to men when asked by an experimenter to do so than to women. [41] A study done in 2000, found that amongst vehicular homicides, drivers who kill women very often get much higher sentences than drivers who kill men. [42] This is also true in regards to all crimes; according to a study done in 2004, criminals who victimized females received vastly more punishment than those who victimized males. [43] A husband whose wife died is way more likely to commit suicide and be depressed than a wife whose husband died. [44]
It explains why 93% of workplace fatalities are male [45]; men are forced to do dangerous jobs, which gets them killed and society simply doesn’t care. This is confirmed by a study done by the USBLS, which found that the most hazardous jobs (the ones with the highest-death percentage) were almost exclusively male [46], [47]:
Firefighting
99% male
Ironworking
99% male
Trucking
98% male
Construction
98% male
Logging
98% male
Coal Mining
97% male
Whereas the least hazardous jobs (ones with the lowest-death percentages) were always almost completely exclusively female [48]:
Secretary
99% female
Receptionist
97% female
The Jobs Related Almanac ranked 250 jobs from best to worst based on a combination of salary, stress, work environment, outlook, security, and physical demands. 24/25 out of these jobs were 95-100% male-dominated. [49] Military deaths are largely male as well. According to the FAS, in the Korean War, 99.9% of all deaths were male. In the Vietnam War, once again, 99.9% of all deaths were male. During the Persian Gulf War, 95% of all deaths were male. During Panama, 100% of deaths were male. During OEF and OIF, 98% percent of deaths were male. Why is this such a persistent theme?
“I think women are too valuable to be in combat.” - Casper Weinberger, U.S. Secretary of Defense (under Reagan)
“It is not appropriate for women to engage in combat... to be captured or to be shot, as opposed to pushing a button someplace in a missile silo.” - Sandra Day O’Connor, Supreme Court Justice
“If there’s a fire at sea and you have to slam down a hatch to save the ship, you might do it on a man. But on a woman…”
According to the feminist, this must be due to sexism, since women have to stay in the kitchen. I also don’t think, however, that being brutally killed in war is all that much better than being a caretaker due to evolutionary instincts. As all this evidence (including the quotes) shows, it is female life being placed as more valuable than the male life, that is an explanation for this male disposability.
If feminism is about, “aiming to establish and achieve the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes,” then why does it never talk about these issues? Why does it stay silent on the issues that really matter? Why are there no gender studies classes on any of these topics? It’s almost as if the media, politicians, and radicals don’t actually care about the equality of the sexes, but are only looking to drive an oppression narrative to which it can gain political standings off of.
These are serious examples of structural sexism that have long-standing impacts, and all we can ramble about is how it’s harder to pronounce ‘woman’ rather than ‘man?’ Or how insults against a man in English also insult women in some subtle way?
Saying the word ‘policeman’ will discourage little girls and even grown women from becoming police officers, but calling the force of evil that oppresses women after men (patriarchy) and the force of good that will bring gender equality after women (feminism) is completely fine? We can’t carry on this absurdity as a society of claiming structural oppression against women. We have to focus on real issues, and then truly work to achieve some form of gender equality.
This idea that patriarchy exists and male privilege is a harmful myth that helps no one. Men who want to feel guilt for something that they’re not even guilty of in the first place are plain and simple simps. They want to pretend like they share guilt for all female problems.
Response to common feminist myths:
Some feminists may object by pointing out the wage gap, and that women earn less than men (specifically 77 cents to the dollar a man makes). But, the reason is that this merely divides the annual salary of men with women. It does not take into account career professions, where women have statistically been shown to go to careers that pay less and careers where men get paid more vice-versa. [50] For the same job and qualifications, the wage gap is 98 cents to the dollar a man makes. [51] However, this still does not account for the number of hours worked, which men work a lot more of. [52] Also, it has been found that young, single, and childless women earn 17% more than men. [52] Going by feminist standards, we have just proved that we live under a misandrist matriarchy! Asking why male CEOs make more than female CEOs is seriously like asking why female models get paid more than male models. Some women get paid 180 grand to sell feet pics. [53] Seriously, taking one picture a day or week of their own feet and getting paid fortunes. The “pay gap” is something that is really appalling because it displays a lack of basic common sense.
Women have been, evolutionarily speaking, caretakers. [54] In hunter-gatherer societies, women gathered and took care of kids, whereas, men cooperatively hunted. [55] So, they often make career choices that make less money and sometimes, even no money. Women, therefore, naturally thrive under jobs such as nursing or even abstinence of jobs altogether in the pursuit of taking care of offspring. The fact that women tend to choose fewer STEM careers is not the result of cultural prejudice because a study done in countries (where there’s higher national gender equality) found that sex differences in the magnitude of relative academic strengths and pursuit of STEM degrees rose. [56] This isn’t sexism, it’s just basic biology.
But, why do women hold less than 25% of governmental positions in the U.S. nationwide? Why can’t women become leaders like men? Why do men take up the top 1%? The problem with this is that it ignores everything else. Men take up 70% of the homeless [57] and are 2x as likely to be drug-addicted. [58] This takes up about 15% of the population, according to the CDC. [59] So, the fact that men take up the top 1% means absolutely nothing if they also take up the bottom 15%. Also, looking at men in government and saying they have all the power is like looking at women in grocery stores and saying they have all the food. It’s a matter of choice, not adding a gendered prefix next to a suffix.
Plus, most of these congressmen, CEO’s, etc… have wives and children that benefit from the money that they make; the spouses of CEO’s end up inevitably doing less work than the CEO’s themselves. In Japan, overwork resulting in death is called karoshi. So, far, in the past 20 years, sudden deaths amongst executives have gone up by a lot. And, as usual, men in their 40’s take up the vast majority of these deaths. [60]
Another method that feminists use to justify patriarchy is rape culture; men have the privilege of not being raped whereas women do. However, this is just false; men are actually raped way more often than women when accounting for the number of prison rapes (over 900,000 male inmates raped), according to The Guardian and the American Public Health Association. [61], [62]
Feminists will also bring up slut-shaming against women as an example of societal sexism against women; women are slut-shamed for being promiscuous, whereas men can be as promiscuous as they want. But, this is actually completely incorrect. In fact, a study done by George Washington University found that on Facebook, promiscuous males are slut-shamed much more than promiscuous women. [63] And for those that do slut-shame women, a large majority are women themselves. [64]
But, what about sexual harassment? Don’t women get sexually harassed and men don’t have to deal with that? Male privilege! Actually, let’s look at the facts. Since 1988, making a dirty joke, looking at a woman’s short skirt, calling a female employee “honey,” can all be illegal and considered sexual harassment if a woman decides she doesn’t like it and the man has perpetrated the act. [65] In other words, women have the power to imprison men for "sexual harassment" if they do anything that could be interpreted as sexually suggestive. When you actually delve into the politics of sexual harassment, a different image other than the feminist model of misogyny emerges.

2020.08.01 16:34 mhandanna Why is violence against men and boys ignored? Male disposability and gynocentrism

By Maria Maria Kouloglou: https://quillette.com/2019/06/03/considering-the-male-disposability-hypothesis/
In her analysis “Women and Genocide in Rwanda,” the former Rwandan politician Aloysia Inyumba stated that “The genocide in Rwanda is a far-reaching tragedy that has taken a particularly hard toll on women. They now comprise 70 percent of the population, since the genocide chiefly exterminated the male population.”
In a 1998 speech delivered before a domestic violence conference in El Salvador, former US senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that “Women have always been the primary victims of war. Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in combat.”
These statements are illustrative of a wider trend of “male disposability.”
What is Male Disposability?
“Male disposability” describes the tendency to be less concerned about the safety and well-being of men than of women. This night sound surprising given the emphasis in contemporary Western discourse on the oppression of women by men. How is it possible that societies built by men have come to consider their well-being as less important? But embedded in this kind of question are simplistic assumptions that flatten a good deal of complexity.
A 2016 study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science found that people are more willing to sacrifice men than women in a time of crisis and that they are more willing to inflict harm on men than on women. In 2017, an attempt to replicate the Milgram experiment in Poland provided some (inconclusive) evidence that people are more willing to deliver severe electric shocks to men than to women:
“It is worth remarking,” write the authors, “that although the number of people refusing to carry out the commands of the experimenter was three times greater when the student [the person receiving the ‘shock’] was a woman, the small sample size does not allow us to draw strong conclusions.”
A 2000 study found that among vehicular homicides, drivers who kill women tend to receive longer sentences than drivers who kill men. Another study found that, in Texas in 1991, offenders who victimized females received longer sentences than those who victimized males. There is at least some evidence that “women and children first” is a principle still employed during rescue efforts in natural disaster zones. Some social scientists have also noted that the media is more likely to focus on female victims than male victims. This is especially true for white female victims.
It is interesting to consider the above in light of the following: Men are more likely to be murdered than women and, in some cases, they are more likely to be physically assaulted. In most countries, men are more likely to die from suicide, they are more likely to be homeless, they’re more likely to be killed by the police, and they are more likely to work in dangerous jobs. Some countries also specifically criminalize male homosexuality, and male homosexuals seem to be more likely to be victims of hate crimes. The wartime rape and sexual abuse of men are also believed to be more prevalent than most people realize.
That's a weird way of saying 75% of homeless people are men. #equality #feministlogic pic.twitter.com/VNsJy9mliW— ಠ_ಠ (@AtheistLoki) June 5, 2016
Despite all this, the media appear to focus overwhelmingly on violence against women and whole international organizations and movements have been founded to end violence against women and girls. You will be incredibly hard-pressed to find similar resources when it comes to ending violence against men. Of course, all this doesn’t mean that men are always more disposable than women. There are indeed circumstances in which women are treated as more disposable, such as the disproportionate abortion of female fetuses in countries like China and India. However, although this complicates the Male Disposability Hypothesis, it does not invalidate it.
Why Violence against Men Is Often Ignored
When pressured to admit that violence against men is largely normalized and ignored compared to violence against women, many respond by trying to justify the imbalance. For example, some contend that violence against women is “gendered” and should therefore be taken more seriously. However, a lot of violence against men is also gender-based. During the Rwandan genocide, it was mainly men and boys who were targeted for murder because of their gender. The gendered nature of the killings was largely downplayed, however. During the Srebrenica massacre, men and teenage boys accounted for the vast majority of the victims. Sexual abuse against men is also believed by many social theorists to be an attack on masculinity intended to demoralize victims by making them feel incapable of fulfilling the male role. Even if we were to accept that violence against men is not gendered, that would not justify ignoring the more common and widespread victimization of men and boys.
A related argument holds that because men are usually victimized by other men, it is less important than violence inflicted on men and women arbitrarily. For some reason this is not considered “gendered” violence, because it is assumed that men cannot target other men for being men. This line of thinking is highly unsatisfactory. Men tend to be quite competitive with other men and there is at least some evidence that women like women more than men like other men. When a man rapes or castrates an enemy during wartime, it is not just a random act of violence, it is a direct attack on masculinity.
A third excuse, usually not explicitly stated but strongly implied, is that men somehow “deserve” to be victimized. After all, if men are the majority of the perpetrators, then it is somehow just that they get a taste of their own medicine. In a 2004 post about the violence in and around the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juárez, political scientist Adam Jones quoted an article by Debbie Nathan in the Texas Observer as follows: “Slaughtered, butchered and scorched male corpses are found far more frequently than women’s bodies are. [But] few seem surprised, much less outraged, by this male-on-male carnage.” Drawing on the arguments above, Jones went on:
The standard operating procedure in feminist scholarship and activism dictates that when a complex social phenomenon like murder is addressed, certain rules must be followed. Briefly put, trends that evoke concern and sympathy for women—in this case, the sharp rise in women’s murder rates in Ciudad Juárez—must be carefully separated out and presented in isolation. Data that threaten to offset or contextualize the portrait, perhaps to the detriment of an emphasis on female victims, must be ignored or suppressed. Hence the invisibility of the nine-tenths of Juárez’s murder victims who are male. […] This feminist strategy reflects, and exploits, cultural convictions about men that are nearly universal. Men are seen as the “natural” victims of homicidal killing, for two main reasons. In part, this is because in most cases, men’s killers are other men—and we all know that “boys will be boys.” Second, men are viewed as implicated victims.
In other words, men are generally perceived as responsible for their own victimization on some level. Women, on the other hand, are largely innocent so violence committed against them is a more serious crime. This is merely a doctrine of collective guilt and punishment.
What Are the Causes?
The question is, why does society frequently appear to care more about the well-being of women?
Social theorists might argue that men are expected by society to be more resilient and self-reliant so they’re often viewed as lesser victims. Women, on the other hand, are perceived as comparatively weak and vulnerable and therefore in greater need of protection, in the same way that adults feel protective towards children. However, feminists would no doubt counter that this attitude is simply evidence of benevolent sexism and female infantilization.
Others speculate that humans—especially males—evolved to be more protective of women. At least one study conducted by evolutionary psychologists has found that men are more willing to make the anti-utilitarian choice to let three members of the same sex die in order to save one member of the opposite sex, especially when there are fewer potential sexual partners. This suggests that men’s willingness to sacrifice men to save women may be tied to their need for sexual and reproductive success. Scientist David Brin argues that women in many ways physically resemble children more than men do (neoteny) and that they evolved that way to inspire protective impulses in men. However, this doesn’t explain the findings of other studies which suggest that women are also more willing to sacrifice men. Another possible explanation is that both men and women evolved to be protective of women because one man can impregnate several women, while a woman will usually only bear one child at a time, so it makes sense for societies to keep women safe so they can reproduce.
It’s hard to say which theory is more accurate or if all of them have some basis in truth. There is shockingly little research on the subject. Researching male victims is not compelling precisely because men are disposable “lesser victims” and male disposability tends to be reinforced by this tendency to ignore the phenomenon.
Is It Possible to Eliminate Male Disposability?
It is not possible to say for sure given the available data whether male disposability is partially evolved or purely the result of socialization. Even if we were to assume that male disposability is, on some level, instinctual, it doesn’t mean that society cannot minimize it. The real question is, do we want to eliminate male disposability? Do we want to send more women into combat? Do we want to have more women in dangerous jobs? Do we want to focus on male and female victims equally? I think this kind of equality is a laudable goal, but it will surely meet some resistance from society. Men themselves are often hesitant to see themselves as victims, traditionalists (male and female) would resist such a challenge to gender norms, and many feminists would resist the idea that male victims should receive greater attention.
What Does Male Disposability Mean for Feminism?
Male disposability does pose a challenge to certain feminist assumptions, but it doesn’t inherently have to be an argument against feminism. There have been cases in the past where feminists have been hostile to attempts to address male victimization, mostly because they fear that shifting the focus toward male victims will further marginalize female victims of male violence.
However, to generalize about all feminist theory in this way would be unfair. Many prominent feminists, like bell hooks, have argued that what they call “patriarchy” can be harmful to men. It is also generally accepted by feminists that male victims of sexual abuse can be marginalized under the gendered norms they oppose. Feminist attitudes towards male issues can be far from perfect and criticisms of feminism by some men’s rights activists are not without merit. But I believe it is both possible and necessary to find some common ground. It is hard to argue that feminism is not needed when one looks at the victimization and oppression of women worldwide. However, oppression is not a zero-sum affair—addressing the oppression of women does not require us to disregard the victimization of men.

2020.07.22 14:35 efa___ I Read It So You Don't Have To: Growing Up Duggar (by Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger Duggar)

Hi all -- for the past few weeks, I've been occupying my hours of quarantine boredom by reading several of the literary masterpieces written by Real Housewives cast members and sharing write-ups of my perilous adventures with the BravoRealHousewives subreddit. But -- at my core -- I am nothing if not a glutton for punishment. So when u/acoffeycup suggested that I crack open my copy of Growing Up Duggar and do my best to decipher the wisdom within, I couldn't turn down the challenge. And in this newfound spirit of evangelism, it seems only proper for me to share the fruits of my journey with your pliant and receptive ears. So pull up a chair, scoop yourself a big ol' slice of tater tot casserole, and listen in respectful reverence to my personal testimony of Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger Duggar's 2014 book, Growing Up Duggar: It's All About Relationships.
----
On the book's cover, the four eldest Duggar daughters smile placidly at the reader, bedecked in a dignified assortment of denim and denim-adjacent garments. Yet even within these constraints, our feisty fashionistas still find ways to express their own unique aesthetic sensibilities. Jinger, for example, sports an early iteration of her now-iconic blazer, opting to emphasize her youthful spirit through whimsical cap sleeves and a precious baby-doll waistline. Next to her, Jessa stares soullessly into the camera, and -- almost against my will -- I find my eyes drawn to her hypnotic gaze. But thankfully, before I am sucked too deeply into that most barren abyss, I am distracted by the smattering of small pearlescent buttons adorning what might otherwise be mistaken for a extra-small mechanic's shirt, and I seize the chance to move along to the next Duggar offspring at hand.
Jill's silhouette is by far the most avant-garde of the foursome, perhaps foreshadowing her oft-hypothesized rebellious inclinations. A tunic-length dress is cinched cheekily above her waist with a thick, woven belt, while a long denim underskirt fully obscures her sheepish shins. In the back right corner, Jana jazzes up a simple tee with a bold statement necklace ostensibly purchased from the clearance section of Earthbound Trading Co., the perfect compliment to an exotically hemmed skirt that I can only assume has been sewn together from the tatters of Duggar rags past.
Eager to learn what invaluable wisdom these pages hold, I impatiently open to the book's introduction -- welcomingly titled, "Greetings: From Our Hearts to Yours." As I begin to read, I am heartened to learn that there is hope for each and every one of us, "whoever you are -- whether you're the girl we met who goes to a Christian school and attends church three times a week but is still struggling inside, or the girl with five tattoos and multiple piercings." Yes, whatever sins you may have committed in your ungodly ignorance -- provided, of course, that you have not yet blighted your body with that accursed sixth tattoo -- the Duggar girls hold a special place for you in their hearts:
Even though we have never met most of you reading this book, we want you to know we love you and care about your future. We want to share our stories with you, knowing you have a story, too, and hoping something we say here might empower you to use your story, your life, to help others.
The Introduction continues with a brief summary of the Duggar Family timeline, in which we are informed that "Mom and Dad look at life as a race against time." This seems to me a bit incongruous with the whole 'eternal life' thing, but perhaps Jim Bob and Michelle were affected by the hit 2002 film Clockstoppers just as strongly as I was. I am also excited to learn that I will soon get the chance to hear more about the authors' "passion for being involved in the political realm," as well as their "commitment and desire to reach out to people in faraway countries." With a few concluding remarks emphasizing the importance of relationships, the introduction comes to an end, and we begin the book proper with Chapter One: "Your Relationship with Yourself: Getting to know and love the girl in the mirror."
We are informed that "Jana and I (Jill) sleep in double beds with our youngest sisters, Jordyn and Josie, and the other girls sleep in twin- or youth-sized beds," which seems as good a time as any to clarify that our authors ranged in age from twenty to twenty-four years old at the time of this book's publication. But if you find yourself pitying the cramped conditions of the Duggar daughters, think again! Not only is it a delight to spend so much time surrounded by siblings, but the elder girls are often led towards profound truths by the innocent remarks of babes. To illustrate this point, Jill recounts a scene in which a young Johannah asked to wear her sister's retainer. Wise beyond her years, Jill gently denied the request, explaining that the retainer had been made to fit her mouth and couldn't be worn by the small girl (a small blessing, as I can absolutely imagine the Duggar family passing down a single retainer from child to child for a decade or more). But what sagacious insights should we glean from this touching tale?
Thinking about that conversation later reminded me that we can't conform ourselves to other people's molds. But we try sometimes, don't we?
It's so comforting to remind myself that I was molded for Jesus's mouth only -- why would I try to adapt to the crooked canines of this fallen world? We are next provided with a list of "ten aspects of life" that God wants us to accept. These range from the blatantly problematic -- "whether we're a girl or boy" -- to the bafflingly sinister -- "the date we will die." When it comes to the more physical aspects of your aesthetic presentation, however, a lack of effort is unbecoming. Or, as the Duggar Girls reminisce:
We heard a pastor say one time, "Any ol' barn looks better with some paint on it!"
The girls also explain their convictions regarding modest attire -- "we want to be respectful of those around us." Personally, I've always attempted to show respect to others by presuming that they have the emotional and cognitive wherewithal to avoid turning into some kind of raving hormonal beast at a bit of tasteful sideboob. But that's why I'm not the one writing an advice book!! Thankfully, in this day and age, a number of options exist for those who want to be both chic and chaste. For example:
Several of our friends have purchased stunning dresses from designers such as www.beautifullymodest.com or www.totallymodest.com.
I'm rather partial to inordinatelymodest.com myself, although the sales at bewilderinglymodest.com just can't be beat! But our gracious authors bring us back down to earth, reminding us that there are far more important things in life than the frivolous fads of fashion -- namely (as we begin Chapter 2), "Your Relationship with Your Parents: Love, respect, and communication."
In order to facilitate these crucial lines of open and honest communication across such an innumerable brood, we learn that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have made the radical decision to carve out dedicated time for one-on-one conversations with each child -- "usually on one Saturday a month." These precious monthly check-ins with one (or, on a particularly special occasion, both!) parents provide an opportunity for otherwise scant face-to-face contact, and also allow the Duggar parents to exercise some of their more cutting-edge parenting techniques. For example, our authors let us in on one particularly hard-earned pearl of wisdom practiced by their beloved parents -- "often to help get the conversation going, they'll ask us questions."
With such a lofty standard being proffered, I understand how intimidating it may be to even attempt to incorporate such advanced strategies into your own parenting repertoire. But rest assured -- in case you have yet to acquire the child-reading confidence necessary to formulate such thoughtful queries on your own, I've taken the liberty of transcribing a few of the book's most incisive inquiries to help you parent like a pro.
How's your thought life going?

What things about your past would you like to change?

What things in our family discourage you?
"Discouraging" is exactly the word I would use to describe Michelle Duggar's bedragged coiffure, although something tells me that's not exactly the kind of confession that line of questioning is designed to draw out. A subsequent passage emphasizes the importance of obedience, which we learn should be "instant," "cheerful," "thorough," and "unconditional." Such instruction is necessary, as the Duggar Girls explain, because "we are all born with a sin nature." Similar to the appendix, the "sin nature" is a vestigial organ that humans retain as a remnant of our distant evolutionary past -- at least, according to the heathens who indulge in that sort of paleobiological storytelling. And if such instructions still seem overly domineering to your unenlightened mind, this adage from George Orwell's 1984 the Institute in Basic Life Principles may help reframe your mindset:
Obedience is the freedom to be creative under God-given authority.
We transition from this doubleplusgood quote into the next chapter: "Your Relationship with Your Siblings: Becoming best friends," in which the authors waste no time in assuring us that the Duggar siblings "range from outdoorsy types to computer geeks, animal lovers to bookworms." Plus, I can only assume, a brain, an athlete, a basket-case, a princess, and a criminal. We go on to learn that the clan represents "a diverse assortment of personalities, interests, strengths, and weaknesses." Which sounds suspiciously like the noncommittal vagueness of someone who has never before possessed a character trait more forceful than, perhaps, a vague appreciation for wainscoting. Inevitably, however, these differences in temperament lead to vicious conflict. For example, as Jessa tremulously recounts:
An incident many years ago served as a lesson to us all. A younger sibling asked, "What kind of ice cream are you getting?" and the frustrated older sibling replied, "You don't have to always copy everything I do! Why don't you just pick out your own flavor?"
Mom immediately took that older sibling aside and shared how much hurt and devastation a remark like that causes. […] Apologies were made, and the younger sibling readily forgave. The older sibling resolved to never speak demeaning words like that again but rather to embrace and uplift this sibling, and today, these two continue to be the best of friends.
I find it truly inspirational to know that even this -- the most unimaginably devastating of sibling brawls -- could be delivered from the brink of schism and restored to genuine affection. Yet it is not just sibling relationships that must be navigated with this sort of grace and levelheadedness. No, as we learn in the next chapter -- "Your Relationship with Friends: 'Show me your friends, and I'll show you your future'" -- it is important to shrewdly evaluate our friendships to assess their effects in our lives. To illustrate this point, the Duggar Girls encourage us to be mindful of the influence we exert over our loved ones.
Think about your last conversation with your friend. Did it lovingly challenge him or her spiritually?
I think back to a time when a dear friend lovingly challenged me to take edibles and re-watch the first season of Double Divas -- surely this is the kind of spiritual development that a true confidante should inspire! The authors also relay a parable that their parents shared with them as children to demonstrate the importance of standing up for your convictions. In the apocryphal tale, a young girl begs her father to allow her to attend a friend's slumber party. He agrees -- provided she promises to uphold her Christian morals -- and sends her off after a parting moment of prayer. But what began as a carefree romp soon turns sinister, as the chilling saga continues:
The party was lots of fun, and the girl had a great time playing with her friends. And of course, what is a birthday party without a big piece of cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream? But late that night, before bed, the mom suggested they have a "pretend séance" using a Ouija board.
When the girl heard what this involved, she said respectfully and quietly to the group, "I'm not going to be able to do this."
When the mom asked why not, the girl replied, "I've given my life to Jesus, and I'm not able to do things like this."
The mother was stunned by the little girl's words -- and by her quiet courage in speaking up for her beliefs. She packed up the Ouija board and suggested the girls play something else before bed.
And that mother's name? Albert Einstein. But truly -- I can only hope to one day have even one fraction of the courage shown by this young girl, in this absolutely true story that definitely without-a-doubt one-hundred-percent happened. A more believable anecdote quickly follows, however, this time starring a young Jim Bob Duggar in the role of "huge nerd".
Dad became a Christian when he was only seven, and one day when he and some other little grade school classmates were out on the playground, one of the boys started using God's name as a curse word. Dad quietly told the boy he wished he wouldn't misuse God's name. "After all," Dad told his little friend, "He's the One who made us and loves us."
Following in her father's smarmy footsteps, Jessa encourages the reader to eschew those friends who are only concerned with "watching all the newest movies, listening to the latest pop music, and judging others whom they deemed 'not cool.'" We are also treated to the compelling account of an accident at one of the family's rental properties, in which several cases of energy drinks exploded within a warehouse. By the time this tragic mishap was discovered weeks later, "the energy drinks had actually eroded away a layer of the concrete -- in some places, a half-inch deep!" The moral of this story, as we are solemnly advised, is that "the same thing happens to us when we spend lots of time with 'friends' who may seem sweet and appealing but who are exerting a harmful influence on our hearts." I would have thought a more telling moral would have been "Probably don't drink energy drinks" (or perhaps, "Check on your rental properties more frequently"), but I digress.
Our rollicking ride continues with another of Jim Bob's classic legends: "the story of a nice, likeable young man who grew up in a Christian home but eventually became a drug addict." Eyes wide with horror at the very thought, I read on. After making the grave error of surrounding himself with people whose "sole purpose in life was to 'have a good time,'" this unnamed man soon finds himself ensnared in a perilous trap. Then, on one fateful night, he attends a party and is handed a beer by a passing stranger.
At first he just stood there holding the beer in his hand, smiling and contemplating what he would do. He had never had a desire to drink, but he did not want to feel like an outsider, so when no one was looking he poured half the beer into a nearby potted plant. A little later his friend came by and said, "You didn’t drink any, did you?" Then, grabbing the bottle out of his hand, he noticed that it was half empty. "Hey, guys, he's one of us!" the friend announced to everyone.
Shorty after that the young man started drinking; later he got introduced to drugs. How sad that one, seemingly small decision started him on a path of self-destruction.
I can only assume the rest of that pivotal party went more or less like this. A bone-chilling illustration of just how slippery a slope can be!
We move along to a more cheerful topic in Chapter Five, which switches gears to focus on "Your Relationship with Guys: Saving yourself for the one God has for you." Here, too, we are greeted by the eternal words of our communal patriarch-in-spirit, JBD:
About the time we entered our teenage years, Dad told us a story about a girl he went to school with in elementary and junior high school who was boy-crazy. […] He said he wondered at that early age if eventually this girl would find Mr. Right or if her habit of throwing herself into relationship after relationship would prove to be preparation for a future unstable marriage.
Sadly enough, when this girl finally got married, it didn't last long, and that same pattern of discontent, insecurity, and self-centeredness that had affected her dating also affected her marriage.
Prior to today, I would have found it hard to believe that anyone else could be quite as smugly infuriating as Jim Bob Duggar. But -- if even half of the stories I've read in this book so far are to be believed -- he's gotten only more mellow with age. It's a level of condescending smarm I wouldn't tolerate from a distant great-aunt desperate for an heir to her vast fortune, let alone from the insufferable schoolboy herein described. Nevertheless, my thoughts and prayers go out to this pitiable Jane Doe -- our nation's epidemic of Boy-Craziness has wreaked havoc on so many communities, no doubt the devastating consequence of 5G, vaccines, and/or the 19th amendment.
In order to avoid such dangerous impulses, a responsible woman should take care to abstain from romance novels -- "they paint a picture of an unrealistic, unobtainable relationship." I'm not exactly sure what part of Her Country Star Billionaire Groom seems so "unrealistic" to these narrow-minded nincompoops, but I'll table that conversation for another time. We have more important things to attend to at the moment. Namely, the continuing explanation that, for women, romance novels do "the same thing pornography does to men." I'm grateful for this analogy -- as the most delicate of damsels, I'm not even really sure what pornography is, let alone what about it those mysterious menfolk could possibly find so stimulating! But I do know that warm tingly feeling I get when I cuddle up late at night with a thick, beefy Harlequin Romance!
Alas, it is this very indulgence may prove to be my undoing! As we soon learn:
When a girl reads romance novels, she's doing something very similar [to watching pornography], drawing perfectionistic, romantic pictures into her mind of what she thinks marriage is.
This is a sentiment that, prior to the publication of the book I hold before me, had been most recently proffered by the famed Scottish wordsmith Charlotte Lennox in her 1752 novel, The Female Quixote, and I appreciate our authors for bringing light to such an underrecognized talent. The Duggar Girls continue our intellectual escapades with a reminder that "God put that deep need to be loved and accepted in our hearts so that He could be the one to fulfill it." As an astute pupil of the cultural arts, I immediately recognize this approach as step three of the D.E.N.N.I.S. System (Nurture Dependence).
For this vast array of reasons -- as eager as we may be to go to pound-town tie the knot -- we are cautioned to remain patient until our fated suitor arrives, engaging ourselves in trivial, non-threatening pursuits like "teaching younger girls" or "seeking out ways to bless others through ministry." We should also make it a priority to hone our skills of resistance when it comes to those worrisome "intrusions of lust" that Satan embeds within even the most innocent of minds.
We like to think of [these thoughts] as a live hand grenade coming our direction, and before it explodes we quickly pick it up and throw it right back at the devil.
I can only assume that this what Bruno Mars was trying to convey with his hit song, "Grenade" -- the intertextuality never ceases to amaze me! The Duggar Girls go on to demonstrate their dexterous command of the metaphor -- "We give God the position as 'boss' and 'ruler' of our lives, and we release the 'steering wheel' to His control." -- before highlighting ways to serve God regardless of your marital status. For example, "visiting places like Honduras and sharing the gospel with villagers is a ministry opportunity our family greatly treasures." And by "places like Honduras," I'm sure they mean, "places with countless centuries of rich cultural heritage ravaged by colonial conquest and its lingering effects," and not "places where brown people live." Pretty sure, at least.
But even once you've managed to attract the attentions of your future beloved, you must take care to guard yourself from falling too quickly. To ensure that you don't award your affections to an unworthy suitor (thus irrevocably tainting your eternal purity), the Duggars suggest asking the following questions:
Is his passion in life for earthy money or for eternal riches and rewards?

Does he have a vision for his life of doing great things for God?

Is he a man of character, showing initiative, creativity, diligence, enthusiasm, and wisdom?
I'm 99% sure that "initiative, creativity, diligence, enthusiasm, and wisdom" are the primary attributes from a knockoff version of Dungeons & Dragons -- who knew the Duggar girls were so into RPGs? (I guess they did warn us earlier that some of the family members are "computer geeks").
In the next several passages, the authors explain the "very real and very purposeful differences" between dating (bad!) and courtship (good!). First, they highlight a number of treacherous threats that pervade modern romantic culture.
A danger of modern dating is that it is typically two young people, alone, enjoying an activity. Usually a guy invites a girl out to a nice restaurant or some fun place or event. They enjoy a carefree time without the responsibility of the normal tasks and pressures of life.
I'm almost too overcome with terror at the thought of such a wretched situation! But somehow, (mostly by channeling the immeasurable determination of someone only allowed to show affection through three-second side hugs) I find the strength to read on. But to my despair, even more tragedies await me! As we are instructed to imagine:
What could be worse than having to tell your potential future husband that not only did you not wait but that you also have a severely painful STD that he will likely get if he marries you?
Not a SEVERELY painful STD?! But idk, lots of things could be worse than that, probably? Maybe it's just my overactive imagination, but it seems like you could knock out that whole conversation in one night over a bottle of wine, particularly given ongoing advances in modern medicine. But it seems I still have more to learn -- as I soon read:
Physical intimacy in marriage is pure, wholesome, and beautiful. Outside of marriage, it spreads disease, death, and destruction.
I've never really thought of myself as a "sower of destruction" before, but…I don't hate it. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what kind of casualties ensue the next time I have sex with my live-in boyfriend. As they say, nothing spices up the sex life like ascending to your thrones as eternal agents of pestilence and devastation!
Our next tip for identifying an ideal mate encourages "meaningful conversations about history, politics, theology, and such" -- I can only assume that the extensive footage of this intellectual discourse is edited out from the family's show at the demands of tyrannical production companies. But while those easily titillated minds might prefer to focus on worldly concerns, our authors are courteous enough to remind us of what truly matters. While he doesn't have to be "the best-looking hunk of human flesh ever created," it is vital that any potential partner practice "the fine old art of gentlemanly chivalry." As the Duggar Girls explain,
A gentleman's courtesy is not about women being weak or strong: it's about men needing to be men.
Jim Bob, as one would expect, exemplifies these virtues. We are regaled with recollections of his many demonstrations of decorum throughout his storied marriage:
Years ago, he was working on honoring Mom in several specific ways, including remembering to open the car door for her.
As soon as I finish reading this book, I'm going to get right to work on a list of specific ways that my boyfriend can work on honoring me -- I'm sure he'll be very appreciative for the guidance!
However, before I can get to that, I must tackle my next lesson: "Understanding What Christian Guys Look For in a Future Wife." Based on an admittedly "small and totally unscientific survey" of their male acquaintances, the Duggar Girls are able to share with us a few explosive secrets. For example, the ideal wife "has a hunger and thirst after righteousness" and promises to "faithfully help [her husband] grow deeper spiritually." What's more, she should also be "involved in some sort of ministry -- preferably music ministry." The chapter concludes with a convenient list of commitments for the reader, including pledges to "choose wholesome activities" and avoid "bad Internet sites."
In Chapter Six, the Duggar Girls lead the reader to examine "Your Relationship with Culture: Making choices that will keep you pure." Almost immediately, we are cautioned that
With just a few clicks of a keyboard, the Internet gives us the ability to research any subject. But it also has the potential to destroy the souls of those who get entangled in its dark side.
And lest you think this is hyperbole, our authors reiterate that "it is not a matter of if but when Satan will try to tempt us." As a thought exercise, the reader is encouraged to reflect: "would your Internet choices be the same when you were all alone as they would be when someone were sitting beside you?" In particular, the girls draw attention to the seedy underbelly of harmful gossip sites, breezily brushing off these piteous busybodies with the following bit of clever wordplay:
We've heard that some discussion boards or chat rooms might be better named bitter rooms because those drawn to them often seem rather bitter.
As our quipsters continue, "unfortunately, some people seem to derive much pleasure from nit-picking other people's lives." Thankfully, I derive my pleasure from nitpicking other people's books, so I'm totally in the clear on this one! Our authors encourage us to reform these renegade impulses by explaining that when we stop wasting time on mindless pursuits, we'll find ourselves becoming more productive, enterprising individuals. As a result of this ideology, we learn that "by age ten, John was working on and operating heavy equipment." I'm unimpressed -- call me when you've got a three-year-old on woodchipper duty. Regardless, it is clearly far safer than its petrifying alternative -- exposure to the horrors of television.
And what, pray tell, might these horrors be? Magic -- "which often shows up in children's movies" -- is revealed to be "part of a demonic realm that God wants us to stay away from." As the authors solemnly intone, "as harmless as it may seem, it's not a joke in God's eyes." Graciously, the Duggars have deigned to provide several reliably pure entertainment options:
many of the old classics that promote honesty, respect of parents, and reverence for God

educational documentaries that teach about science and history from a biblical perspective

many carefully selected episodes of The Andy Griffith Show as long as they are not centered around a lot of romance or deceptiveness, as some of them are
With regard to making appropriate music choices, "much prayerful consideration" is required, lest we "bring a blot to the name and character of the God we represent." However, in order to guide our future reflections, the Duggar Girls go on to provide a helpful technique for assessing acoustic chastity.
Soon after Mom became a Christian at the age of fifteen, a friend encouraged her to write out the lyrics of questionable songs and then compare them to the truths found in the Bible. For instance, if a song's lyrics are saying, "Follow your heart. Do what feels good," we compare it to the Bible and find that […] we're not supposed to follow our hearts, as that will only get us in trouble.
I suppose that means I'll have to rethink my upcoming single, "Follow Your Heart (Do What Feels Good)," but that will have to wait until I've fully absorbed all the insights this book has to offer. For example, as I read on, I learn that I should be particularly suspicious of "rock 'n' roll and its variations such as hard rock and heavy metal." As the authors expound:
Since its beginnings in the 1950s, this music's main goal and purpose have been to promote every one of the issues we want to avoid. A heavy backbeat and words being sung in a breathy and sensual voice -- and even the style of rock 'n' roll music itself -- give off an attitude of rebellion, resistance toward authority, and a rejection of morality. None of these things come without consequences.
Lest you think that our authors are merely being alarmist, they go on to explain that when they "examined the lives of many of these artists," they were dismayed to conclude that "the life expectancy for rock artists and musicians is around forty; many of them die at a young age for reasons related to AIDS, drug or alcohol abuse, or suicides. It's a tragic reality." Far less perilous to enjoy "classical music and traditional hymns," as they are known to "follow a pattern and maintain a very distinct and definite order."
With this final injunction, we move on to the volume's penultimate chapter, "Your Relationship with Your Country: Making a difference in the political arena." My attention is instantly captured by the opening sentence, which informs the reader that "God used a series of supernatural events to clearly lead our family into making a difference in the world of politics." The "supernatural event" in question turns out to be the undeniably divine miracle of Jim Bob Duggar…finding out about a rally against "partial-birth abortion" and then…attending it. I can only imagine how much more wondrous the world must seem if such a banal and explainable episode is sufficient to incite veritable fits of exaltation.
But this portent is just the beginning of Papa Duggar's political career, and I read on to learn even more about "the values Dad stood for." Although this lineup presumably does not include any sort of commitment to avoiding sentence-ending prepositions, it does include a promise to vote "the right way on life-and-death issues."
Before long, Jim Bob "felt God urging him to run for the US Senate," and although he loses the election, publicity from the campaign eventually brings about the family's first taste of national media attention. After much prayer and "wise, godly counsel," the family agrees to be filmed for a reality show -- "we agreed to do it based upon our hope that it would enable our family to share encouraging Bible principles with many other people." And indeed, the family now receives "hundred of letters and e-mails" per week from viewers who have been "spiritually challenged" by watching the series.
But rest assured -- "Dad's loss in that Senate campaign did not end our involvement in politics." If you, too, would like to follow our authors' example and become more civically engaged, you could "find a conservative Christian who is running for office and then call and ask them where he or she stands on the issues." I suppose I should give them a modicum of credit for the inclusive phrasing, "he or she," but the fact that I don't have the slightest doubt as to the intended meaning of "the issues," prevents me from even a half-hearted endorsement of this sentiment.
Blessedly, however, we've reached our story's denouement -- a final chapter entitled, "Your Relationship with the World: Developing a servant's heart." Jill tearfully recounts a ministry trip to El Salvador, taking care to highlight the contrast between the "iron-barred windows" of government orphanages and the "love-filled" Christian facility the group goes on to visit. What accounts for this stark discrepancy? "They've fed these children not only with food for their tummies but also food for their spiritual lives." As Jessa quips, "It is so neat to see how God works." Of course, as you might have suspected, the Duggar Girls quickly realized that, "as with every trip, it was clear that we were the ones who'd gotten the biggest blessings." Truly -- the engagement you get from an Instagram post featuring a bona fide orphan is worth more than any financial reward one could ever hope to gain on this mortal plane!
We next learn about Jill and Jana's experiences with the local volunteer fire department. Mercifully, this endeavor doesn’t necessitate as many Rugged Man Skills as you might assume, and the two are able to respond to such dainty predicaments as "a little old lady's cat stuck in a tree" and "a kid with his lip stuck in a sippie cup" without jeopardizing their feminine delicacy. Jill next shares more about her journey with midwifery. As she reassures us, it's not just "Christian, homeschooling moms" who opt for home deliveries, but "single moms" as well!
Jana, in contrast, tells us that she "[feels] called to focus on childbirth coaching and prenatal preparation instead of 'running the show,' as Jill does so competently when she serves as midwife." And Jinger has been called to minister at "the juvenile detention center in our area," which she fashionably abbreviates as "juvy" to highlight her comfort with urban vernacular.
As I read on, I learn more about the Duggar family's love of music, which is far more diverse and expansive than one might initially assume. For example, did you know that the Duggars "enjoy traditional music as well as classical," or that a young Joy-Anna was encouraged to undertake the daring pursuit of "[learning] to play the violin 'fiddle-style'"?
As these examples illustrate, God's gifts can take a myriad of forms! For this reason, we go on to learn about the importance of "learning how to give an enthusiastic, friendly greeting to others." This technique is a surefire way to spark a deep and meaningful conversation with anyone you may encounter. And, in the most dire of emergencies, "we know we can shoot up a little flare-prayer and God is always able to give us the words to say." However, one should always take appropriate caution "not to be too overly friendly with people of the opposite gender, as that can send the wrong kind of message!"
As luck would have it, we have only to look to the Duggar parents to find examples of more decorous ways to approach intimate dialogues. As we learn:
Many times our parents have guests over and then ask if it would be okay if we watch one of Jim Sammons's Financial Freedom Seminar messages together from embassyinstitute.org and then discuss it afterward. Once they watch one message, most people want to go through the whole series.
With a few final nuggets of wisdom, the volume comes to a close. The authors graciously offer an obligatory apology for daring to burden the reader with their inane female ramblings -- "Thank you for sticking with us through this super-long chapter!" As they continue:
We know we've shared a lot of concepts about relationships, but it is our prayer that God will direct and encourage you as you begin to make them part of your own lives.
As you go off and begin your own personal journey towards relationship rapture, you may find encouragement in the idea that -- despite their celebrated name -- the Duggar Girls are not just some faceless paragons of virtue. As the author biographies on the back inside cover remind us, these are regular people, with their own unique interests and capacities. While Jessa might be found "memorizing scripture" or "discipling friends," Jill would rather spend her time "counseling girls via phone, text, in person, or email." Jana "stays busy managing the family mailroom," and Jinger? She's "always full of energy, that is, when she has a cup of coffee in her hand!"
And with that cheeky witticism, I close the book and begin my quest towards docile, denim Duggarhood -- I wish you nothing but blessings as you enter this season of life!

2020.06.01 10:23 AudiRS3Mexico Latin America was a young adult how wouls you describe countries?

Costa Rica because they are are awesome. They would be the quiet kids who have a better quality than life and are richer than everyone. However are low profile and dont show off.
Brazil and Mexico = The kid that thinks hes cool and better than everyone. However comes from a violent home and grows up to be unstable. Doesnt know how to pick a partner(you have been way off on politics) However when they get their shit together will be a world power
Chile is the smart weird kid who is doing well but just socially weird.
Argentina looks very good attractive but something isnt right. They cant balance a check book and can be a little bit jealous. However their heart is in the right place just hasnt worked out
Venzuela The kid who came from a rich house hold that went broke. Now they do drugs and have abusive parents. Their best friend Colombia is sick of trying to help them.
Panama the class hustler that with little recourses manages itself well. However picks horrible dates. Thinks they are better than everyone but just keeps quiet about it. Only flirts with Costa Rica and Colombia is its distant cousin.
El Salvador could be a late bloomer who ia studying hard its JR ans SR year. They are trying to get their shit together
Colombia could be a potential power. Very smart kid who has street smart, book smart and emotional smart. They had an abusive parent but parent is in therapy and seems to have almost figured things out. Colombia will be a power along with Brazil and Mexico who have large populations.
Puerto Rico is the adopted kid with issues that ran away but is hanging in there. Very cool person who influences however full of debt but most people think everything is good there since they have rich parents who adopted them. Rich parents got divorce and mom is dating an asshole called trump who hates you.
Dominican Replic is puerto rico with out the adoption issues and not as bad with money because they grew up poor so had to learn to manage money. However they seem alot happier than PR.
the rest of central America who cares...they just sit at the back of the room

2020.05.26 08:38 EleventhTry [DIPLOMACY] The Miami Conference

Department of State

Harry S. Truman Building, Washington, D.C.

As the economic crisis originating from a massive downturn in the Panamanian economy has spread into Central America as a whole, we believe that work must be done immediately to curb a rapid spike in regional poverty and as such we wish to work with all of our regional partners in Central America to mitigate the impacts of the economic damage and to end the crisis before it spirals further. That said, the following nations have been invited to Miami, Florida to discuss the ongoing situation in Central America in a means to stymie a future depression. The following nations have been invited:

  • Republic of Cuba
  • United Mexican States
  • Republic of Nicaragua
  • Commonwealth of Belize
  • Republic of El Salvador
  • Republic of Guatemala
  • Republic of Honduras
  • Republic of Costa Rica
  • Republic of Panama
  • Republic of Colombia

We believe that through appropriate multilateral efforts to ensure economic security, we will come out of this stronger than before the crisis.

One of President Kennedy's main tenants in foreign policy is mutual respect. For decades, centuries even, the United States has time and time again refused to give its southern neighbors the proper respect in which they deserve. We hope that we can change this negative precedent to establish a new foreign policy in which we work hand in hand to shed off the problems of old. Whether the United States can assist our neighbors through fair, and moderated investment, bailouts, or assistance otherwise, we believe it is a necessity that this must be stopped dead in its tracks and will do all it takes to do so.

2020.04.28 15:59 Xenosaurian Timeline of the Alien, Predator, Alien vs. Predator, and Prometheus Universe

Introduction
The following is the official in-universe timeline of events as they unfold throughout the shared continuity of the Alien, Predator, Alien vs. Predator, and Prometheus franchises. While the cinematic timeline begins with Predator in 1987 and ends with Alien Resurrection in 2381, the shared universe technically began with the 1989 comic Aliens vs. Predator by Dark Horse Comics (which takes place at an unknown date) and was cemented together with the release of the 2004 film Alien vs. Predator (which takes place in the same year) and has been further expanded upon ever since throughout various Alien, Predator, Alien vs. Predator and Prometheus media, notably through the Fire and Stone (2014–2015) and Life and Death (2016–2017) comics by Dark Horse Comics. Throughout this fictional history, we see the Weyland-Yutani Corporation (simply known as "the Company") and its ancestral companies, Weyland Corporation (a.k.a. Weyland Industries) and Yutani Corporation (a.k.a. Yutani Incorporated), and affiliate organizations, such as OWLF/Project Stargazer, in their persistent pursuit of capturing and studying the Aliens (a.k.a. Xenomorph) and the Predators (a.k.a. Yautja), with civilians and military personnel, such as the United States Colonial Marines Corps, trying to combat and survive these extraterrestrial threats while either attempting to stop or aid the Company in achieving their goals.
